Not an easy question, funnily enough it was easier for me to explain what love is when I was a teenager not now when I'm twenty sth. Probably I was not meeting the right people later and forgot what falling for sb actually meant. But I'll give it a try: love makes a relationship a completely magic thing, you can't sleep, can't eat, you just want to be with the person you care about all the time and can't imagine your life without them. Good luck in love life to everyone!

I've wrestled with this question for years, and lately I've intensified my search for the meaning. The best definition of love I've seen is in the Bible:

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

If you read and understand each clause in that passage and consider whether or not you treat those closest to you in a way that personifies those ideas, then you'll know if you truly love those people. Love really is a choice you make, you choose to love someone. That "I'm in love" feeling is, I think, more in the realm of infatuation... after all, it ends! (But it's fun while it lasts!)

BTW, I'm not saying that true love isn't emotional, or that it doesn't affect you in a romantic way; in fact I believe that if you truly love someone they you are both free to enjoy a lasting feeling of "floating on a cloud" or having a crush.
