Do many British carry knives?

depends what you mean by many, G. knives are undoubtably carried as are all sorts of other weapons, including guns.

From the cutlery drawer to the work-surface or to the dining room table.

I also use a knife at work for cutting string, shrinkwrap and cardboard, and also for stabbing Polish people.

I'd say it depends what area you are in. In mine, most guys and many women/girls do. It is fun.

anecdotaly, however, apparently the quickest way to deal with an upity pole is drop a small coin on the floor. as they stoop to pick it up its game over.

I did when i was younger but i don't know. I can't speak for other British kids but i imagine it depends on your curcumstances.

Why would u want to do that Englishman? There used to be many knives in Glasgow but there was a big clampdown.

Still happens though :( Last time I had a night out there with friends I was threatened with one. Stupid part was, her friends were holding her back, but mine had to do the same with me because I was tipsy and not pleased with her... Would have been a very bad move. Only time I've ever [well... jointly] tried to accept a fight instead of leaving it. She had to go and hit my best friend though...

not only are knives for cowards but carrying any sort of weapon is a mugs games, something that children do to assert themselves.

if you carry any sort of weapon you run the risk of someone whos just a little bit harder than you, taking it off you and shoving it where the sun doesnt shine.

do yourself a favour and leave the weapon at home

Knives are sharp. If you carry one, you might end up hurting yourself, or as Mr. Woo just said, someone else might hurt you with it instead.

In times of trouble, your best weapons are the ones you were born with, especially your feet.

Having a baseball bat or some other sort of kosh (some people might keep one in the car or under the bed - why?) are particularly useless as they are so unwieldy. In most civilised parts of the world, carrying a gun is even less of an option, particularly as you will get youirself in far more trouble with one, even if you don't attempt to use it. Luckily, in Britain, hardly anyone does resort to this.

I must be painting a nice picture... but I know someone who did was attacked with one and took it off the guy and it ended up in the owner's leg.. I didn't approve, he could have just thrown it away and punched the idiot. I was disgusted at the thought, actually.

U can carry flick knives which are safer inside ur pockets but that's sth for hateful b*stards.

on a serious note tho, ive found the safest option is to lock yourself in a car and run people over. effective and impersonal

I don't know why people bother in my area to do it, I see random stop-searches all the time and know of many being caught. Maybe they just do it again because the punishment is not enough..
