Seriously? They don't do that in L.A. do they? The horse meat. Their zuccini is really good. And their salads.

Wait. I'm thinking of Carl's Junior. They're the ones with the zuccini. Yep, there's still Jack in the box here.

Yes, we have McDonalds and so... but you know I go there ones a year . I can say only about myself. And fast food , or however you call it, is pretty expencive in Poland. For 10 or 15 zł (burger, fries and coke) I can buy main course in restaurant, healthy and tasty.
Food at school : mug of milk , soup (i.g. milk soup, chicken, mushroom...) , bread, meat (i.g. meat ball) and lots of potatos, or pasta.

The flavor.....actually, I was never aware that we ever had JITB in the midwest (I only saw it in the south and the west), but if it was shut down due to its serving horse meat, my guess is they didn't advertise it as such.

I had horse meat in Italy many years ago - wasnt actually aware at the time of eating it...only after when I asked the waitress (school skiing trip - no menu available!!) also had sweet meats on that particular trip....again wasnt aware what they were until later!! Both actually quite pleasant.

Ranj I think Bubs is a vegi so the idea of meat isnt very pleasant.

Don't you have 99cent burgers in Poland? (I think that would be less than 3 zl.) We have them here. You can get fast food very cheap here. That's the reason so many people stop and get fast food in the US because it's so inexpensive and because it's fast and they're in a hurry. Restaurants here are alot more expensive. You can't get a meal for less than 8 dollars (about 24 zl I think).

Yes, one burger is about 3 zł so 1$ (exactly equivalent), but we earn (average job i.g. shop assistant) 6 zł so 2 $, and people in US I bet earn much more (10 $ per hour or sth), so less expensive for us is buy meat, vegetables and bread and cook ourselves .

I think Poles are still in a decent shape comparing to western dwellers. Some may be just pleasantly plump, but not grossly obese (ok, a few are). I left Poland in 1980 and the amount of HUGE people on the street was shocking to me. My aunt in Poland always complained that she is fat. I wrote back to her that she could be a model comparing to a lot of people on the street (she was about 180 Ibs then).

Guess what, they got bigger since then and I gained 17 pounds since my arrival. Some people gain more than that in a year. IT'S THE FOOD plus the convenience of a car and an elevator in a 3 story building. As I literally run up the stairs, my fellow Americans are waiting for an elevator! People love to dig their grave with a fork and a knife, if you know what I mean. This might be a blunt statement, but it's time to zip the mouth for many.

thats because McDonald's hasn't come to Poland with large numbers yet. but then again it won't be so popular

we love our own food- so unless they start serving Pierogi and knedle (spelling??) i doubt fast food will catch on. knedle i meant dumplings ( i can't spell, srry )

so we will stay slim compared to Americans. I only see common obesity among Polish elderly, never the young. but the elderly deserve to be obese, they've been on this earth too long and have gone through too much **** and they can do what they want. Whether its drive 5 miles an hour or complain about today's youth....they earned it.

I hope it doesn't catch on. I hate fast food and it's embarrassing to me that America is the home of fast food . Subway is ok but the rest of the places gross me out. I'd rather shop at Whole Foods or eat a nice homecooked meal any day. Oh, and I'm crazy for sushi...do they have sushi bars in Poland?

Thread attached on merging:
Polish Snacks, McDonalds, Burger King et al

Quick question:

I hear that fast-food restaurants are not really popular in Poland. Poland apparently has the least Macs and Burger Kings in Europe. Question is: why is this and where do the Polish youngsters go when they want to have a bite after the dance and drink on a Saturday night?

They go for kebabs and pizzas or to chicken joints. The Poles love their fast food.

Ok, thanks for that. These are pretty general snacks...Are there any typical Polish snacks you can buy in quick-joints?

Thats not true. Perhaps the youngest generation now, yes, but the 25+ and older age group very rarely eats out at these greasy joints.
