Hi, I arrive next week.
I'll be teaching there for a year and was hoping for some advice. I've been in and out of teaching for years so spare me any how badly managed schools are etc advice - I know that :)

What I am after is any advice on cafes, bars, where I could relax for a coffee/beer - catch some live music. Anything else a newbie could benefit from. I would love to meet some local musicians etc...

Cheers

Bit late but try club sephia ? Go past the hotel President towards the train station and its on your left . Waga club up by the castle in the square with the fountain .Going back into town down the steps past the city pub and sphinx restaraunt next left i think a few bars and that down there or carry on over the river and there's a lovely cafe on your left to people watch from with a cappuccino and L&M , Magnum pub somewhere up there too . Club klimate in the shopping precinct . Other than that just look out for flyers . It's lovely in the summer go up the mountain trails , log cabin bars and places to eat . Head out to the lake ( jezioro zwieckie ) Most clubs/bars you can google or youtube . Have fun !
