Heineken Opener is in a few weeks time and I know most of the international bands playing,

Which Polish bands are worth checking out
http://www.opener.pl/pl/artists

Style of music doesn't matter to me, I'm always on the lookout for new music

i'm not even going to go there with what that image conjures up in my mind -- given i've studied image symbolism this past year within the Media ... ! Burton drove me insane and you do find yourself when you've done that part that you analyze Adverts everywhere

Lao Che is a good band, but big part in their work is text... I'm not sure what I would think about them if I didn't understand them. For sure usually their concerts are quite energetic and dynamic.

naw, that kind of stuff doesn't bother me, I listen to loads of non-english music and the langugage thing doesn't bother me, actually, it has it's advantages, I'm far more into the melody or the beats of a tune than what the singer is babbling on about :P

I highly recommend DIKANDA - they blow people away!
dikanda.com
or Megitza Quartet :) from Chicago
megitzaquartet.com
(both groups have Polish roots)

best of luck finding the right group :)

2nd year in a row they have won the Major Festival award as well in case you didnt know. Just means they will now change how they put on the event and price hike in some ways to keep ahead of the competition within the music festival field and this area of events is the most difficult to stay ahead and keep surviving in each year as others get better and 8/10 music events fail.

Coldplay are the headliners be nice to see who else graces the event though.

Looks like the line is complete, the ones I look forward to seeing are:

British Sea Power
Coldplay
Crystal fighters
Foals
Hurts
Pulp
Prince
The Black Tapes
The wombats

The line up is not as good as the previous years, for 400 PLN for 4 day festival it is very good value. Enjoy !!!

So I hear rumors in Warsaw that they will be as many as 75,000 people, on day one at the Opener 2011. Better get there early.

sorry to play Debbie Downer, but 400 PLN to sit in your own filth (along with other people's) is a "good value"? aside from Coldplay, i don't recognize a single band on that list.

isn't the Heineken Opener for like......19 year old kids who want to get away from their parents so they can get drunk and not get in trouble?

No the age group is across the board, although the vast majority are late teens, early 20's. I was there in 2008,2009, and 2010, the lineup this year is not as top heavy as previous years.

Well if you are American I would understand?

Most of the main bands are British indie bands, although Prince, Pulp, British Sea Power, Paulo Nutini,National, M I.A, in fact quite a few are very well known.

In the last three years I have been there, I never had to sit in any filth, in fact the weather conditions have been great. Maybe you are thinking of Glastonbury.

Music festivals are about music and meeting people, you either are into that or you are not. For the last three years I have been there with a couple of my mates from the UK and their kids. It was a great bonding experience for father and son. Every year they want to go back, so the proof is in the returnee.

Actually I think there are mostly people in their late 20s.

FuzzyW, music festivals have become very trendy over the last couple of years, in 2008 there was about 35-40,000 people a day at the Opener, now it will be up to about 70,000 +. if you take into consideration, 400 PLN entrance tickets + accommodation + transport+ food/drinks + the tee shirt. You have got to be close to 1,000 PLN + for the average attendee, now that is out of the reach of most teenagers in Poland.

exactly. i mentioned the high cost of this festival in my first post. you said, "the vast majority are late teens, early 20's" so how are they affording it?

i mean, it's teeny bopper music, yet teens/college students can't afford to go......so.....well, maybe someone will fill me in here.

My young friends save for it all year, but they're from Gdansk and it's close. Free buses from the train station to the site and back. I've never been and I'm not going this year. Festivals like this are not my thing, but those who go have a great time.

You're thinking about how you or I would do it (although we'd probably spend a bit more than that on accommodation). However, for a young Pole, it'd be 400zl ticket + free camping + 20zl for bread, noodles and soup for four days + 80zl for bus tickets to Gdynia + 40zl for vodka to smuggle in + three beers per night + a t-shirt if there's any cash left at the end.

like i said, 4 days, drunk, rolling around in your own filth. Where do you shower if you're camping for 4 days? Nasty. I can't imagine what that train smells like when they're all heading back.

I'm with Scottie1113, "not my thing".

H, it is still going to be close to 700PLN + for the four days( on a shoe-string)if they are traveling from outside the Tri-city ( Waw.Krak,Poz)

When you are young, there is always a way, even if you had to beg, save or borrow...

Where is your sense of adventure, didn't you ever go tenting in your 20's.

From what I'm told, the plane smells worse (can't really open the window on a plane).

Doubt it. Can certainly be done for under 600zl (provided Polski Express is involved).
