Might as well start a new thread...

In Poznan, we have a regular weekly meeting of people who like to exchange different languages. Mostly, everyone speaks English - but other languages are used, too. It's quite normal to hear not only English and Polish, but also German and Spanish too :) It's a pleasant time for people to relax and enjoy themselves - good people, good beer, good pub!

For the rest of summer (at least until the end of September) - we'll be meeting in "Baza Wilda", ul. Gorna Wilda 89/19 - entrance is on the right side of the building at the side, down the stairs.

Thursdays, 7pm-11pm :) If you come and you're lost - ask for the "Poznan Language Exchange Club/CouchSurfing meeting" :)

Everyone is welcome - and - of course, it's for free!

CouchSurfing/Language Exchange Club meetings

Sounds like lots of fun. Around how many couchsurfers would you estimate, show up on an average week?

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

In summer, between 10-20 - it's a right mix of people now, because quite a few aren't on CS but found the meeting through the "Language Exchange Club".

The record, so far, is around 80 - but a normal week during the school year is about 30.

It can be good fun - we try and get people to come who are passing through Poznan, so there's always new faces. And an established bunch of drun...regulars ;)

(I'm a loser, I'm home already, too tired to stay out)

Just to let people know - the new location is -

The Vikings, ul. Murna 3. It's located about 1 minute from Stary Rynek, between Stary Rynek and Plac Wolnosci, just off ul. Paderewskiego.

Over 40 people attended last week - it's a great place :)

Language exchange, in what ways can this be done so that both people get a fair chance to learn? Any ideas? Do you speak for 10min each in one language and then switch to the other?

I found this just now:

Well - these meetings are much more informal, as the idea is just to meet people that speak different languages and then use them accordingly. For instance - there was the rather strange sight of a Brit and a Pole using German with each other last Thursday! But it just depends on who ends up talking to who - usually English is the dominant language, though :)

(quite a few people have formed private groups as a result of this though)

Thanks for your reply.

a Brit and a Pole using German

This must have been the cause of a good few smiles and jokes.

Are these meetings still going on? Now that I've just about settled into my apartment in Poznań it might be nice to start meeting folks outside of work.

Still going on - same details as in post #9 :)

(but - best advice is to come at 8pm - no-one really comes before then)
