Poznan: any Django-jazz players out there?

alexw68  Jun 10, 10, 16:42    #1
Hi All

If you're a jazz instrumentalist with leanings towards the romantic golden age of Paris Swing, this one's for you! I want to start up a collective for anything from informal jam sessions to a fully-fledged combo to play at events, festivals, whatever. So, if you're:

> A violinist/clarinettist/pianist/bassist/guitarist/vocalist with a swing background
> a broadminded DJ type who would be interested in fusing older sounds to club rhythms and so forth
> None of the above, but want to see what all the fuss is about

... get in touch!

(Prawdziwi Poznaniacy - piszę również do Was, nie krępujcie się :) )

In Poznan, they'd probably ban you from the pub for playing Gypsy music ;-)

Seriously, tho', I hope you find someone. It sounds like a great idea.

Hey Trev - So far I have a trio, we've been rehearsing intermittently since November. Violinist and bassist harder to find.

Yeah, I have sort of played the Gypsy angle down on this since the start. The Paris line has more favourable associations. A certain nameless dark rose of my acquaintance has been doing a little bit of market research and it appears the sound may catch on in some quarters, so hopefully we will be gigging come May.

OK, I'm outta here, the hordes are walking in...

Some friends of mine up here in Olsztyn play inter-war Warsawian Tangoes, klezmer etc. They have a double bass-player, couple of clarinets, fiddle and accordion.

Should sit well with our country version of "Paranoid" ;-)
