However, when people pay $100 + in the US to hear him play they don't really want a 20 minute lecture from him about Iraq.

With " Waters" you know what you gonna get.

Good to read your review, I am far from being a socialist and do not in any way shape or form dislike the American people, though I do agree with " Waters " on comments about needless manufactured Wars.

Thank you. Well, he seemed to be against all wars, no matter what the reasons to those wars were. My perception was that even the US involvement in WWII was against his principles, that we should have stayed neutral throughout the whole conflict. I guess we should have said just looked the other way when Pearl Harbor was bombed? At least that was my perception of his anti-war ideology.

What seemed very hollow to me was his anti-consumerism push, you know, humans are polluting and destroying the earth. Yet here is a guy who lives in a multimillion dollar mansion with an olympic size pool who's renting a Boeing 737 to fly a band of 20-30 people around, and airplane that normally holds 130+ people.

Yeah, no wonder he's Comfortably Numb...

Maybe, he is against war on the basis that his father was killed inaction in 1944 ( Italy). Loss motives and scars people in different ways.

Mostly agree BTW - but Waters solo stuff is mainly sh1tty too (in fact The Final Cut, which was practically a Waters album in all but name, was an awful let down after The Wall)

Pink Floyd's Iconic album is " The Wall" its a hard act to follow for anyone.

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.

Excellent, the wall has been the most influential albulm of my life.

On wednesday night I went to the Wall concert - Roger Waters in Barcelona. It was a event very much on the lines of theater. If you have tickets it will be a great gig.

Waters was Pink Floyd, easy as that. Everything post Waters was mind numbingly boring.

substitute Syd Barrett for Waters and you've hit the nail on the head :)

ukpolska:
Syd Barret's music is more fun then Post Syd Pink Floyd!!

I'm with you on this one

But for me its all about " Roger Waters" what he stands for as a human being and his contribution to music. He is just a class act.

sorry to say as a bandmate he was a prick(according to Gilmore, et al)

Whoah! Sorry vex but you're sooooo far off! No effin way! It was their collaboration AND the tension between them that drove that band until it finally subsumed them.
convex:
division bell was about as hollow as you can get. pure pop man.

Agreed!

Roger Waters has confirmed he is likely to be joined on stage by former Pink Floyd bandmate David Gilmour on his forthcoming tour of The Wall - but only for one gig.

I saw the gig in Barcelona a few weeks ago, get ready for a great theater experience. I am not a big Pink Floyd fan, I was very impressed with the stage show. Have a great time.

That was a long road back home from Lodz, but I got completely blown away by the show. Epic special effects.

I'm also quite amazed by the amount of criticism and pointing fingers. And it's all current affairs and present problems. Of course I've heard and read about Roger throwing stones at politicians and countries at his gigs, but I felt that it's just gonna be another show here, without too much moralizing. Maybe because Poland seems to be rather distant from problems of the big world. And the recency of some of the clips weve into these intricate animations ( for instance the leaked american helicopter pilot killing civilians motnage ). I liked how he changed the "Goodbye Bluesky" animation. On the other hand I think there was too much "war" during the whole concert. I don't remember that much in the movie or the album itself...

All at all, great show once again. I so feel like everyone should see concerts of such musicians. There's an era coming to an end, and this is the last chance to see some of them live. My next target : Jethro Tull

All I can say is this: In 1970, at the old JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (where the famous first 'Live Aid' concert was held), I saw Pink Floyd: Gilmour, Waters, Wright Mason, touring to promote their then current 'Ummagumma' album...I believe this was the first major tour of the post Syd Barrett Pink Floyd...The price?...50 cents, that's half a dollar, US Money...Concert sponsored by City of Philadelphia...The prices for this tour?...Ridiculous...Just shows you how currency has been completely devalued...Have fun, get comfortably numb!

ummagumma

BTW, I enjoy both Gilmour & Waters...I saw the 'Gilmour in Gdansk' DVD: both the music and the staging/performance were beautiful...Go back and listen to the 'Meddle' album.

I was in Gdansk to see that concert and it really was great. I enjoy both too, I do understand that these guy have a pretty nasty past between them and there's a thin chance (or maybe no chance after Wrights passing away) of them playing together again. This understanding doesn't make me hate Waters' music in any way.

There was a reunion concert in 2010, in aid of a charity in the UK. Gilmour asked Waters to join him, so the rest is history. If you place " PINK FLOYD REUNION CHARITY CONCERT " in the youtube search menu, it will pop up. Here is a taste.

Enjoy
