I just joined the site and wanted to say hello. I have used this site as a resource on many different occasions and have to say that the posts here have been invaluable.

I dated a Polish man for three years and had a wonderful time with him; however, he relocated and I recently began to miss speaking Polish and thought I would join the site. I look forward to talking with you and learning more about Poland.

Sorry I didn't do that the first time around osiol, but thanks for your encouragement to start my own thread!

Hi, Melanie - welcome to the forum!
Have the recent rains alleviated your drought much?

Thanks for the welcomes Rakky and Firestorm!

Unfortunately Rakky, the rains haven't done much. My house is on a well and I am beginning to wonder when I am going to wake up and turn on the water for a shower to find I am all out! I have been doing rain dances for months, but apparently am not getting it right...

How's the weather in New York? I would imagine it is getting very cold up there as we are in the 30s here tonight!

How's the weather in New York?

We also had a prolonged drought from last spring into late fall, but have had a good amount of rain since then, so things water-wise are much better. The temperatures are indeed plummeting - we're expecting HIGH temps in the low 30s starting this Thursday.
I've got friends who live (no kidding) on Morningwood Drive in Atlanta - do you happen to know that neighborhood?

I am not familiar with Morningwood Drive. I tried to locate it and found a Morningwood Lane in Kennesaw Georgia and a Morningwood Court in Suwanee, Ga. Is it perhaps one of those?

I will be in New York City on Memorial Day weekend. Can't wait to head up for a vist. Haven't been since January of 2005! Might head to Baltimore/DC in the next few weeks for a visit. Dreading the really cold weather up there!

That's the one! I forgot that it's in Suwanee, not Atlanta.
I live about an hour north of Manhattan (my local train takes 70 minutes to get to Grand Central Station). What's the reason for your trip north?
The weather changes quite a bit up here in the winter - by the time you head to DC it may be in the 50s or even warmer. Live for today!

That is not an area I know very well, but my GPS could certainly get me there!

I am a student tour operator (basically a travel agent for student groups). I have a group heading to NYC this Spring and I will go up and tour direct their trip. Going to DC/Baltimore to get more ideas for sending groups there. I usually go to Chicago in December too, but going to skip that one this year and hold out until it warms up a bit!

Do you work in Manhattan? I would imagine a 70 minute train ride each way would get a bit boring. Of course, I used to commute 70 minutes each way to work. I was the one driving so that was a bit more entertaining!

My dad lives on the Suwannee River in Florida. Nice little hideaway. He's only 20 min from Valdosta.

I drive through Valdosta all the time on my way in and out of Orlando. The Suwannee River is nice (have to sing the song every time I cross over it). Did he have to deal with all of the smoke down there this past Spring? It was bad even as far north as Atlanta!

Are you talking about the fires that were near Lake City? I think he mentioned there being a smoke problem from a fire somewhere.

I love the river. It's a very peaceful place. I do some free diving in there for arrowheads. There are tons of artifacts on the bottom.

Yep.. Those fires. I was in Tampa and the smoke was all the way down there. Day looked like night. It was not good.

I would imagine it is a great place to find some neat artifacts. Is the river being impacted much by the drought? I live on a pretty big lake and it looks smaller than a pond right now. I see the shells of dead mussels on the shores and wonder what is happening to all of the fish. Soon they will all die as there won't be enough food and oxygen for them. Very sad!

I did once - for two days. That's all it took for me to realize that a commute like that was NOT for me. I live in Putnam County (near Brewster) and work in Danbury, CT - just about a 25-minute commute. Much better!

Sounds like a great way to do a lot of fun traveling and write it all off as business expense! I applaud you!

It would be great if I weren't the business owner trying to survive the first years of being a business. I can't wait to travel the entire globe and write it off! Probably have to find a good accountant to find all of those loopholes.

25-minute commute

That is the perfect length commute. Give you time to gear up on the way in and wind down on the way out. My commute is currently 10 seconds from upstairs to the basement. Sometimes traffic is tough, but I miss being able to escape the office for the wind down time!

I don't commute directly in - I hit the gym on my way to the office in the morning. That wakes me up and gets the blood flowing. It's the days that I don't go to the gym that I feel tired or listless.
Got a gym local to you? Hit it at an off-peak time of the day! The place will be all yours and you'll get totally rejuvenated.

Nah - just keep your receipts and a decent spreadsheet. EVERYTHING is deductible! Show a loss on the business - the government doesn't care!

Funny you should say that... I joined one just this afternoon during my lunch hour!

Hmmm... Sounds tempting... Just not sure if I want to take on Uncle Sam if I were to get audited. Which I probably would!
