Not rteally funny because in years to come in England there may be a real backlash because the British are getting sick and tired of having to compete with 'new arrivals' for jobs. Nobody has an automatic right to a life or job anywhere, that much I agree to, but I have worked hard for over twenty years with my present employer who has looked after me and I want to build a strong economic environment for the next generation including possibly my own children in less that ten years from now, be it in my place of work or soewhere else.

The problem is that YOUR employer wants a bigger profit so he hires a foreigner
who works for less but provides a similar standard of work. If anything blame your compatriots who see opportunities in hiring Poles and other foreigners. At the end
of the day patriotism doesn't keep his business afloat but cheaper labour does help.

The English are island dwellers. They will be more xenophobic towards everyone else. Its the same with the Japanese, Taiwanese, Australians.... xenophobic as heck. :)

However I'd venture to say that the Poms :) are more friendly than the French and
Germans - at least when it comes to Poles. ^_^

I haven't been to the UK for some years now, but my impressions were very different. At first the language problem prevented me from any, except for a very basic, interfacing. On the top of it I had problems with the Home Office. Somehow officialdom was more accommodating than aggressive (nevertheless I left). Years later with my English somehow improved I visited UK again (and again, and again) and found people to be the friendliest one can imagine. Londoners, as occupants of many big cities are not typical and except to visit friends who live there and museums I do not like go there. But overall I found English to be honest, polite, helpful, and forgiving. It may be a bit harder to become friends with them, but it is probably because they understand friendship as form of commitment (I had similar experience with the Chinese). When it comes to women, they are simply the best.

I wouldn't say they are more educated in all areas. There are quite a low number for example of POlish computer programmers and they didn't rank as good as British ones. All the major software is programmed by British nationals or Americans. Poles do make good factory workers, thats what they are needed for.

Why so many British are xenophobic, especially Polonophobic ? Is that because we are better educated, have better work ethic and look better ? Is this a matter of inferiority complex ? Comments please.

Greg still doesn't get it, does he! Well The problem is there are just too many Polish people comming in, (why is that racist or xenophobic?) Do you think that Schools, hospitals, housing can just go on for ever??? When the government decides to close the borders (which one day they will have to do)I beleive relations will improve. Don't forget there are millions of Romanains and Bulgarians wanting to come and bring Children.

RE "Polish people are better educated" This is true, But then why are so many people bringing children to the UK for education? Romanian/Bulgaria/Poland and the others have good education anyway.

Polish programmers have won the first place in the World Finals of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest which had place in Tokyo, Japan in March 12 – 16, 2007. The most talented students from the world’s finest universities were competing in the annual contest supported by ACM and IBM.

A group of students from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow was second in the 2006 International Collegiate Programming Contest. Although defeated by a team from Russia's Saratov University, the Poles beat 5,600 other student teams from 1,700 universities around the world. The final took place in San Antonio, USA.

Poles top world coder ranking

Poland topped the 2005 TopCoder country ranking for programmers. In the same year, a student at Warsaw University completed a hat-trick of TopCoder wins against competitors from around the globe, while three Polish entries were among the world's best 25 best university teams.

TopCoder programmer rankings are based on individual and university achievements. Poles regularly lead both sections.

Teams of Polish programmers have been winning large competitions and showing off the prowess of Poland's top universities, reports Clay Bullwinkel, who works with Silicon Valley companies setting up hardware design partnerships in Poland.

Yawn... Don't worry, you are still better in gay rights and gender equlity...

More are getting out than coming in. I'm a very nice guy now but I think that there's too many British in Poland and next time I see any I think I won't waist the opportunity to tell them that.

I don't know the exact numbers but Poland contracts out to other countries alot for programming work. You wouldn't like Alan Turing. He invented the computer and software systems, but shock he was gay. So Greg better get back in the Closet!

How ironic, a Romanian preaching on how Poles seem to be more succesful in the manufacturing sector, and not in the professions.

What annoys me is that Greg thinks that everyone Polish is genetically "better" than others. Well if you go back in History to the second wold war, the Polish scientist cracked one engima code. However, when the Germans made it more difficult, they decided to hand over the enigma machine to the British for help, becuase it was too hard to do by hand. Well Alan Turing built the worlds first computer system to disypher codes. So the main alogrithms were developed by the British, though the Polish had an Engima machine which they passed on the the british.

Maybe he knows something you do not. Judging from what you have written about Enigma here he might be right.

Perhaps you should read more about Enigma machine. In 1932 Rajewski has broken the code for the first time. After that it was playing catch up with Germans who constantly were improving the machine and adding more wheels. Rajewski has also designed the first automatic machine to decipher the code. However in 1938 when Germans made new modifications his machine was obsolete, until then it took only 15 minutes to decipher the massage. The design of the deciphering machine has changed again and now it took about 2 hours to decipher. The knowledge of Enigma was shared with British and French due to the limited recourses Poland had. Although Alan Turing built the world’s first computer system to decipher codes Poland possessed an automatic machine to do the job before that.
BTW it’s a good thing that they shared the knowledge with the British otherwise the war would take longer.

Well the Polish version is bound to be different to the British view, thats why I read neutral stories of the events, from countries such as Belgium. Also you don't mention that there were many different codes, and the last ones could ONLY be disphered by computers because there were thousands of combinations. The British had computers that the Polish could only dream of. What is the name of of this Polish machine that could break all codes? Anyway when Germany invaded POland,
its unlikely that they contiuned their work, under Nazi occupation. In anycase the new codes needed completely different methods to break concerning mathematics. I think the Polish wish to think they are the only ones that helped.

They sure did. But look at the timeframe when did they have it? Like I said before Germans were constantly improving codes so it was a matter of catching up.

For the argument sake I will let it go otherwise we will have to argue what is the computer. Digital computer as opposed to the analog computer. In the 1930s and 1940s "a computer" still meant a person doing calculations. Do you really want to open up pandoras box? So I gave the credit to the British, you should be happy.

OK then, the worlds very first "computing machine" was invented by Sir Charles Babage in the 1800s....the computing machine built to help crack enigma, collosus, was built by 2 technicians from the British postal service.

He wanted to design a machine that would save time and money by being xenophobic to Polish people so that actual people didn't have to do it.

A bit eccentric yet interesting character He was. I learned something new today and who said that PF does not have an educational value?

rofl....although the other story I heard was he was actually born Karol Babagski but of course this fact has been as well hidden as Alan Turings hetrosexuality and Polish heratage by the evil english empire....
(dont get me wrong, the origional post of mine wasnt "oh,arnt the english better" its just I love the fact that a couple of posties invented this, not boffs or geeks :) )

As this is now are Poles more inteligent than Brits :-)

I taught in Poland for a very long time. No they are no more inteligent, but they take education serious. Getting qualifications is very easy in Poland, the paper is the most important thing to a Pole.

Wow.. I had no idea that there was so much resentment against Poles in the U.K. I suppose it is very typical there wherever there are large immigrant communities.
