Czechs

I used to know a Czech girl who was tired of telling people she wasn't Polish and that she was better!
That doesn't add up to hatred.

Slovaks

I've been working with a couple of Slovak blokes. Good people. When English fails, the Polish language can just about do the trick.
Again, no sign of anti-Polishness from them towards the Poles in the crew at work.

why the neighbours of the English are not too fond of the English? It's not just the Scots, Welsh and Irish, but also the French, the Germans

On one level, these cross-border rivalries and mutual suspiscion do exist, but when it comes to normal human interraction, these things usually dissipate. You listed 5 nationalities, from which I have had people who I count as friends and who have counted me as a friend.

Friends can come from anywhere. Foes can come from anywhere.

I had a bad experience with a South African guy, but my housemates are both South African who treat me very well. I used to be suspicious of the French (given they are the only nationality to commit a terrorist act in my country), but one of the best conversations I've had travelling was with a convenience store owner in France about rugby... and they were warm and friendly on the Arran Islands once they realised I wasn't English (they suddenly re-discovered their ability to speak English instead of Gaelic). I'd rather blame the person than the nationality.. I admit that sometimes I may be initially cautious because of stereotypes, but I have to admit, I've nearly always proved that there is plenty of good still in the world.

I've read an article some time ago saying that Poles where very high in the Czech "What nationality do you like" list. We were either on the first or second place( can't remember right now).

I've heard Poles say they dont [particularly like Czechs though. "Too German" is the usual statement. Hungarians seem to be liked though.

- But that doesn't seem to add up to friendliness either. Not that we care much about it (although we're taking a note). As for UK, due to the media hate propaganda against the Poles, quite a few folks from the former- Russian-occupied, 'new' EU countries (Czechia, Slovakia, Latvia, Hungary, etc.), residing in UK, try to prove how much they dislike the Poles, because they believe that by doing so they will ingratiate themselves into the British favour. There have been some nasty comments on the Internet and workplace adversity from some members of these nations towards the Polish workers. Perhaps the xenophobes from the BNP and other hate-mongers should join in with those folks against the Poles? As for the Poles, I strongly believe they should leave the UK (and other foreign lands) as soon as possible - en masse. The times are changing. Much better times are coming for Poland and the Poles - not, for example, thanks to Poland's EU membership, but mainly for other reasons. And bad times may be coming for others, including those who have been putting us down (I don't mean the UK here).

- Well put, osiol. E.g. some of the worst Polonophobes were born in my own country. It's similar with other nations. Take, for instance, one of the most destructive Britophobes in history - Kim Philby, the infamous spy for the Russians.

That's quite common for a lot of people who rent rather than own, especially when they know they're not staying there for long, and there's no one individual keeping things in order. You have seen a visible section of Poles in a small area and posted your thoughts. Have you considered those who do not stand out so much? Or those who are not Polish but are as bad or as is often the case, much worse than what you have mentioned.

I find it strange to hear about the fact that Polish people have so many problems in England. In Ireland, while Im sure it happens sometimes, people generally have a very good impression of Polish people.

Do they? I think it's that the idiots here who don't like anyone make so much more noise.
Other than that, there probably is more friction in the UK than Ireland, but what you read from PF trolls and from rags like the Daily Mail is not particularly representative of people's opinions.
Remember: people who shout the loudest have the most to prove (which they usually can't).

- Well, what do you mean by 'they have turn a small part of town into a Pigsty' (sic)? What have they specifically done? Do you mean that all of a sudden a neat, quiet, clean, lovely English town has been made messy, noisy, dirty, abhorrent by some Poles? How specifically? Please let me 'really know' what 'this bunch is like on mass' - give concrete examples.

You know, pal, as for this forum, I think it's types like yourself that change it into a pigsty.

- Somebody should certainly create a separate forum where types like you and ajgraham can learn - or at least attempt to learn - how to write correct English.
