Am just speaking from experience, I know for a fact that the company I used to work for pay Polish workers less than miniumum and I have friends who know other places, just doesn't seem fair that they can work for that but we can't, that why we don't stand a chance of getting jobs

dolly thats not totally correct there are plenty of people working for less than the minimum wage and i'm not just talking about illegals, they just don't know that they are getting paid under the minimum or they are happy to do so

Fair enough.

Though, anyone working in this country who is here legally does have a case if they are being paid lower than minimum wage. Illegally is a different matter of course but that's up to them.

Well yeah, it's the illegals that tick me off, guess I just think of all Polish as Illegal coz where I live thats what they all are. Don't see any Legal immigrants round ere

Well if it was only way of getting a job, guess I would yeah

Would just be nice to be given the chance, like the illegals are

Well, that's fair enough because illegal immigrants hack everyone off.

Well, I am sad to read that but you're right, it may be the only way of getting a job. I don't know your circumstances or qualifications etc.

I do wish you luck in getting a job.

here is a general explanation of what my idea is as it says its simple at the moment because i just haven't sat down for hours to properly write anything up. I would love a chance to work for the government and bring some ideas to the table, heck but who dosen't :)

Quoting: tornado2007
why just Polish in general, don't try and make it look like i have a problem with Poles because i don't so please stop your insinuations now, thank you.

Well the very very very draft version of my idea is to simply make everybody apply three months in advance of them arriving into the UK, whether there from the EU or outside of it (with my idea we would be outside of the EU, therefore not under their laws).

Of course all the information required on the application form would be the same standard ones as applying for a Visa/Work permit etc. When the papers have been sent to the UK there can be a proper background check completed with the full co-operation of the government of the applicants country. Therefore any criminal record, infectious diseases or any other history that may stop a successful application could be assessed.

When the application has been reviewed then the person is granted permission to both work and live in the UK.

I have thought long and hard about it and have come up with a pretty simple plan that with some people with resources could probably be implemented, however with our current political status this would never be possible. Any further questions are welcome

All am saying is that unskilled Brits need jobs such as warehouse jobs and cleaning jobs, Polish immigrants who come to Britain and do such jobs are not really helping the country in any way

forget it!

earlier on in this discussion, someoen said there was a manpower shortage in this country, don't know if it was you or not, but I guess this is the reason there is so much unemployment in this country. Anyway, to cut a long story short, there isn't enough unskilled jobs in Britain for Brits and Pols

but to be honest, those jobs that unskilled polish people do are the jobs that most of the brits won't cos they're too far up there own a*se. most brits would rather get handouts than sweep warehouse cos they know they'll get more.

Yes there are. Some people have been put in the position where they're better off not working and being paid for by people like me. Some people are too bone idle to work. I get satisfaction from having done a day's work, even if it's not the best day, or even the best job. How low is unemployment in the UK?

I do to. I rarely leave work feeling like I've not achieved anything.

If this were true, the Job Centre would be closed...

Of course there are many people who would love to work but can't for whatever reason.

Like I said before, the JC would be shut if there were no jobs.

I personally wouldn't use them to recruit if I thought they were of no use.

job centres

I never found a job in one.
I went a couple of times. They steered me towards benefits.
I went out and looked at places I thought I might like to work in.
I went to an agency that took me on, but got a decent job before long anyway.
I did not have any qualifications, I hasten to add.

I have never tried to find a job in one, I'll admit that. But I know people have found jobs there, and I took on two people last week who got our advert there.

It is true though, that there are many ways of finding jobs if you do not like the JC. Like Donkey says, there are agencies. Walking up a main street near my work today I saw three adverts in shops windows looking to recruit for inside that particular shop.

I was tempted to temporarily take a job in Whittards, a high street shop.
They sell nice coffee and also coffee machines (I need a new one).
Employees get quite a good discount.
They didn't tell me I had to be an immigrant.

I have also tried agencies and they are a waste of time most of the time because you see ads for jobs in papers or wherever and so you ring up about work and all you get is, "sorry mate, it a we got nothing at the moment" but yet they still continue to advertise even though there no work

Can I ask, have any one of you heard there is a man power shortage in the UK?

I know a few places that actually tell you that we only setting on Polish

Well if there are jobs available, they only available to Polish, thats all I can say, don't know why you think unemployment is low, but its not true

Apparently there is a man power shortage but at the same time we have high unemployment - see what's wrong with that picture?
