I just need to know how the name "Natia" is pronounced. In other words, is it 3 syllabels as in Na-ti-ah, 2 syllables as in Na-tia or yet another variation? Thanks. Hani

It's two syllables, with the stress on the first one. ('t' is very soft, the sequence 'ti' sounds like <tj>)

Oh, so it is 2 syllables with the stress on the first one and the <ti> sound is like a <tj> with a soft <t>. In other words, it is pronounced Nat-ja with the letter <j> sounding like the letter <g> in the englsih alphabet. Am I close? Thanks.

I made it more complicated - the syllable -tia sounds like <tya> (in Polish the letter j sounds like y in e.g. you). Hope that's clearer.

Thanks. I got it. That's what I thought it was all along, but a colleague of mine is called Natia and she pronounces it Nuh-tee-uh. She did not know it was polish and she did not know that it meant "hope". I'll tell her how it is pronounced in Poland. Thanks for your help. Over and out. Hani

Natia is not really a Polish name although you probably might find it in Polish, very rarely though. It's obviously Slavic, no doubts about it, but more to the east.

Sorry to tell you that but it's neither 'hope' in Polish; the word is nadzieja, which is pronounced differently.
