The nations Poles don't like (stats)

so I feel we need to post it:

interpretation:
30% of Poles don't like Russians ... 25,7 % Germans ...

Cygan means Gypsy
Żyd means Jew

(yes Poles hate less Jews and Gypsies than Germans and Russians) ;)

as to Americans there is much bigger positive feeling towards this nation than negative (5%) (in positive feelings they are close to the top).

This stats show only negative feelings not positive.

Which nations Poles like?

I'm surprised about Ukrainians though...why would some Poles don't like them ? (there may be something but can't remember...)

You should try reading the history behind these "reasons" :)) I know I was a bit surprised too. I know some Ukrainians in Canada don't like us. They say Poles controlled Ukrainians (back in like the King's day in Poland). Which I don't get it fully because at that time Russians wanted to take over Ukraine...The Polish King at that time; said ok you can join us but just follow our rules...Ukraine joined Poland (but not to be a part of Poland) just the Polish King ruling over them too; so that Russia doesn't take over the country Ukraine. They felt more safe with Poland at that time (Poland was powerful).

So I guess not everybody were happy being under control of the Polish King.

During the Great World War; Ukraine were with Russia (part of Red Army?) they helped them; killing Poles. I know this because one of my grandfather's brother's whole family were killed by Ukrainians during the war....so I would assume the # of these Poles still don't like them because of that history.

honestly after "orange revolution" they are more and more liked in Poland.

Romanians are on this list beacuse of Gypsies. Rome is gypsy (the same as Cygan) and Rumun is Romanian in Polish. what is more a lot of gypsies in Poland are form Romania so ...

Poles - by nature - do not like their neighbours. I'm suprised "Arabs" is listed as a nation and why Poles don't like Arabs or Iraqis as an average Pole has never seen or had any relations with an Arab or Iraqi in their life, but here the media propaganda works.

Very common translation problem (hard to call it an error, even if it does frequently lead to misunderstandings).

For most native english speakers, 'nation' means 'country' (in Polish 'kraj')

But here it's being used (confusingly) as a translation of the Polish 'naród' which is 'ethnic group' or sometimes (though not here) 'nationality'.

Well, the poll says that Poles "hate" Russians the most, but Russia isn't its neighbour, apart from Kaliningrad... :)



Polish people have always been a nation, even when they had no country, that's the definition, a group of people that share a common culture, language, religion, etc.

Like there was on another thread, there needs to be a separation between people and government. It was established that the Poles dislike the Russian govt but not necessarily the people. I thought the Germans would top the list.

it is correct and fair to seperate people of a country from their government. its also correct and fair to say that many people in a country are represented by their government. there is no separation for some.

when i saw the list above i tried to compile a similar one for the uk and ran into difficulties.

what countries are disliked by people of the british isles?

France would rate highly tho mainly due to the sentiment of the English. Poland has also made its way onto that list, again more English bad blood than others.

It is important to separate the 2 as to do otherwise would be crazy. Look at Americans and the perception of them. They are afraid to travel out of fear thanks to an interventionist foreign policy.

If we're talking about Warsaw Uprising, according to Norman Davies, contrary to popular opinion they weren't Ukrainian, but Byelorussian and Lithuanian units (apart from common criminals who were promised abolition of their crimes).

Perhaps more precisely term would be 'don't dislike' :) Although I think that more and more Poles don't look at Germans through II WW prism. Personally I don't mind Germans, however I know that there are many who still consider us as 'Untermenschen' or 'Wasserpolen'.

Well, it's a name given to Silesians from Western Poland with German citizenship, who are interested only in making money in Germany.

Your link gives two explanations:

1.) Poles from the Oder (especially raw and wantless)

or

2.) pure Poles (Poles of purest water)

does that mean: 9 in 10 poles like Gypsies ?

My girl is Slązaczką and she has never heard of Wasserpolen. Many Poles go abroad just for money, it isn't a new phenomenon
