I could come to Bydgoszcz and be a teacher of English in Poland. I have actually been to Bydgoszcz several times many yearsa go. I do not know what it looks like now but then it was a dreadful place-by far the worst place in Poland-a complete and utter dump in fact! Even the roads were a pain to drive on it was if they had not been made up for two hundred years.

Seriously, you would not want to be a teacher of English in Bydgoszcz or anything for that matter!.

Well Bydgoszcz isnt a bad town and im sorry you have bed memories of it. As for the roads-no offence to anyone- I havent been in a town in Poland where the roads are good. If you think it is a dump why are you saying you could come to Bydgoszcz and teach? Sparrow I will email you.

I never said that I could come and teach and my memories of the town are dreadful and my memory is quite good. The old square is passable but as for the rest...forget it. I would honestly say that even Radom is nicer on the whole.

Anyway, I am a native speaker of English and I speak very good Polish too as my wife is Polish so why do I not qualify for the post. I have a degree in Russian and Soviet Studies and I have a Trinity TESOL qualification so I am a qualified teacher, surely that would be enough?

I could teach you Polish at the same time as I see that you have an interst in learning Polish. You are not missing anything as far as I can see as long as you read what I say carefully.

Yes, metaphorically, I could come to Poland and teach English, like any other 'native speaker' but as I have been there i.e. in Bydgoszcz, I would rather not knowing Bydgoszcz as I do.

Oh, what a shame. Am I over qualified?

I live in England but I bet that I speak better Polish than you!

What's more, I bought a book about Polish grammar, read it and went to London to POSK in June of 1990 and sat the G.C.S.E. examination with all the other Polish candidates and got a grade A. I never paid for a single language lesson in my life. I have met quite a lot of English language teachers in Poland and once or twice I met nice ones but most of them were obsessed about making money. Not my cup of tea at all.

No its not a question of qualifications. The ones that you say you have sound great. However as we are a private school we require teachers to be friendly as well as having the skills to teach, so that the students like them. I remember some of your other posts on here saying what a great house and car you have(showing off) sorry but thats not the kind of person we are looking for. Im sorry you dont like Bydgoszcz, and im sorry you are using your experience here years ago to support your view. Poland as a whole has gone through many changes in the years. However I do feel that Poland and Bydgoszcz arent missing your presence very much.Well done on learning Polish, it is a tricky language however as an English language school we are more interested in the ability to speak English.

Have a nice day and thanks to all the people who have sent me emails. I will reply later tonight.

Yes, I am sure you are right. In fact I was thinking about Bydgoszcz and it was around 1990 that I stayed there. Time just flies. Places do change I suppose after seventeen years-it is frightening to think how life just runs away with us. I would still imagine however, that you would need a good command of Polish to teach English. How can you translate anything otherwise? Anyway, I can not comment as I have never been a teacher of England anywhere be it in Poland or anywhere else in the world so I can not comment further. About my house and car there is no real relevance but I do remember very well being in Bydgoszcz and the Polish girl, whom I knew then thought about nothing else than furniture and houses though when she saw her parents work their whole lives and then die for almost nothing it puts things in to perspective. You are only a teacher wanting to make lots of money (like almost all TESOL teachers) and you have no idea what it was like to live and work under the communist regime. I was a student in Moscow under the Communist system and saw much at first hand.

I also see no reason why the students would not like me as I had many Polish friends both in Moscow and in Poland. My wife is Plish and we have been married for fifteen years and we have three children together so I know more about the Polish than any English TESOL teacher. Have I said enough?

If that was true I wouldnt be working in Poland. I could earn more by working in HMV full time.

How very sarcastic of you! Actually, teachers in Poland giving lots of private language lessons used to earn a lot of money but I do not know what it is like now as I am out of touch. I met several language teachers in Czestochowa, one of whom was doing 'overtime' in his private language lessons. I am talking about fifteen years ago so maybe things have changed now. Personally, I would not work in Poland as a teacher nore as a sales assistant in HMV both these positions are without any future.

So why oh why are you posting in this thread? You have not added anything helpfull.

So you said that teachers seemed obsessed with making money. Well if they were offering their services to people and were doing a good job why shouldnt they be paid well? Maybe they have families to look after and peoples futures to provide for.

Youre right. One day everyone born in the world will automatically be able to speak English, also anyone who wishes to learn will never have any problems so there will be no need for teachers. LOL. Yes there are many more mixed nationality relationships happening now but i think teachers will always be needed. However if they are as bright as you im sure they will be fine.

When did I say that everybody in the world will automatically be able to speak english? These are not my words. I would have thought that if you want to be well paid it would be better to go to South Korea. I have heard that they earn the most money in the TESOL world, if that is the case, of course. I would doubt if teaching in Poland would ever make you a rich man, for a young bachelor maybe but with a family to support? I may have said this already but once I was in Warsaw and went for a chat about a job teaching English. Later when I met my Polish friend and I told him how much I would be earning he laughed..."my mobile phone bill per month costs more" he replied.

Admin I appreciate that you want to keep topics down to a minimum. So can you change the topic title please? Because in this new job offer we are only looking for native speakers.
