I meant the people who didn't use avatars before the changes, apologies, I should have been clearer.

I can't be bothered to read over 12 pages of this stuff.
For one thing I keep looking at the avatars instead of reading the text.
What's it all about anyway?

Because your eye is drawn to the right, away from the post!

For god sake people....ENOUGH already!

I've been watching this thread for the past few days, and the words rattle and pram spring to mind.

Yes, in the beginning it was a pain in the ass, primarily because we are so used to identifying each post with it's author (in the same way we can see who is speaking when we talk to them in RL). But since Admin has copitulated and put the posters name at the top of the thread I just don't see why there's still a problem.

If you are that pissed off, vote with your feet and go somewhere else. If the majority of posters went elsewhere Admin would start to worry, but the fact you are still here generating traffic proves here's/she's not as daft as you moaning minnies!

I will be staging a 7 day walkout effective Wednesday.

I will be protesting by taking part in several rallies involving sand castle building, wine tasting, beer guzzling. As a matter of fact I will be immersing myself in a Mexican forum, learning all sorts of Spanish curse words.

come on you don't possible think i would lower myself :) i think all that can be said for the pros and cons has been said already, as the author of this post admin you are welcome to close it down as my initial point of opening it was to gain support for the left sided avatars again, as this is not going to change then i see no point in it being here anymore.

Thanks for all the contributions, both, people who have and share the same opinion as me and those who don't. Also thanks to Admin for contributing also and keeping people up to date with whats going on, although obviously i didn't read it all the way through, lol.

Thnx

Lol, you either love me or hate me, right..........................but that's not the point. In this instance, Admin have the ball, and it's their game. Personally, since they put the poster's name back on the left, I don't see the problem.

It always amazes me how quick people complain about things that others do for them! If it wasn't for Admin, you wouldn't have a f*king Polish Forum!

I say again, if you don't like it, go and start your own site.

Not a happy bunny,

It seems admin did not want that the impressions created by avatars add to the impressions created by the text, sth like that.

If that was true, there would be no avatar feature in the first place ::

tornado2007 wrote:
Thanks for cleaning that up for me mate, it still is beyond me what the need for change was, i don't no if Admin has ever really explained its reasons yet

The reason, as always, is improvement.

Wroclaw wrote:
If you read a post without concentrating on the name you are more likely to treat the poster with respect. I think.

Well, currently it's even easier to check the username so that was not the exact reason - the reason was the overall improvement: for both the readers and the poster.

shewolf wrote:
I personally think people are visual and tend to rely on an avatar to recognize the person who is posting. Even if the name is right above the message we still need to see a picture to really know who it is. And in order to do that we have to go all the way across the page now. I think that's why people are complaining. It was just easier when the avatar was right there, on the left side.

I would completely agree with that IF all posters had their own (and unique) avatars. However, it would never be the case; currently maybe 20% of registered members have avatars (some are the same) and guest posters obviously cannot have avatars at all. Your reply suggests you only relied on avatars in posts - but what when the poster had no avatar, wasn't it confusing or distracting? Now there's only one and non-distracting way that applies to all posters -- to check the username. It couldn't be easier.

To be fair to Tornado..........this is a pretty lame expination.

As I've stated earlier, I have no problem with the new layout, but would have expected you to qualify what you mean by 'improvement'.

And yes, I've read the whole thread about 20 times, and I can't see a valid justification from you Admin. Yes YOU think it's better, but apart from making spurious referances to the credits at the end of a film I really don't see the logic.

Be honest - it's no better or worse, but like I said, it's your ball, so you make the rules.

I for one am just pleased that the forum exists.

But please, if you are going to get into a polemic discussion, at least have the vocabulary to justify your position!

- easier reading and writing (ie. going right-away to the "meat" of the post instead of wading through avatar, post count, stars, registration date, or gender info),

- lighter layout/design

Is that the people who regularly post or just people who have registered but never actually participate in the forum?

Not sure that's strictly true............I never took much attention of the post count, registration date or gender info, but I suppose we'll agree to differ.

The only thing I did take notice of is the name (identity) of the poster - as you do when you are speaking to someone (facial recognition). - But you put that back so it works for me.

BTW WTF do you mean by "lighter layout/design" - all you did was move one part of the layout to the other side - In architecture that isn't even a 'variation' it's just 'repositioning'

Again, please improve your vocabulary, or get a dictionary.

I didn't count it but with the current design it doesn't matter (ie. it should work for both those who have avatars and those who don't have)..

By lighter layout and design I meant just that: lighter colors on forum pages, in the forum icons area, in the footer; no dark-gray horizontal bar between the posts; no dark-gray bar below the topic title; evenly-aligned "Quote" link; different quote background and text color; different position of the "add to favorites" button.

But maybe in architecture such "details" may not be as important (at least as important as using sophisticated words), I don't know..

Lol,......in architeure, it's known as the contractor taking the pi**, ie. he only puts one coat of paint on instead of three, hence the lighter shade!

I hadn't noticed the change in hue, but I'll take your word or it. The fact remains that no one was complaining about those "details", so you have still to explain why the 'right side' is better. Or maybe you are trying to 'muddy he waters' like most contractors, when they make spurious cliams.

Never meant to imply avatars were the only recognition tool. If a regular poster had a unique avatar, It was clear to me, and quickened the time required to digest the post. For those with no avatar, yes, I did/do indeed read their name. It is rare to see a regular poster having the same avatar as another regular poster.

Thanks for changing the darker colour area for the poster info to a lighter one, it is less distracting to the eye.

At this point I find the change is no longer annoying. I've gotten used to it thanks to the muted border colors.

Oh, now we're going to get another 13 pages of explaining right? Anyway, I love the new layout! Trust me, I would even love the new layout if it was upside down and I would love it even more than that if the text appeared in mirror image!

(Let's not give anyone brilliant ideas shall we?)
