The majority of posters dont want the change. How do I know that ? Easy, I read every post on this thread. Just like you did. So, it wasn't an assumption it was a statement based on fact.

Those who posted in this thread make up maybe 1% of today's visitors.. It seems to me it is right to to assume those who like the change don't post anything..

Really? So it couldn't be that they just didn't post?

Interesting logic. I guess that means as long as the majority or people don't stand in the street protesting against the corruption in the government that means they approve of it.

I have solved the problem. All you have to do is turn your screen upside down, and learn to read upside down. Problem solved!

Even my kids think it is weird.

Yeah but since the majority of children haven't protested it means they like it ;)

Yes, I don't disagree with you on that. I made that comment in response to something another poster said and i made it quite clear that it was based on the 150 plus posts I had read so far on this thread. I explained before that I do read all the posts on the thread.

Admin wrote:

I don't know how you can make that assumption. It's not based on anything factual. Just because there is a minority of posters saying they like the change, one cannot assume to know what other people are thinking unless they actually post their comments !

Mybe you should have a thread specifially asking people to record their preference. Unless of course there is some way we could set up a poll ?

:)

Why it is strange? Another alternative - count the posts of those who posted today in other threads versus those who posted in this thread to check the ratio of satisfied versus not-yet-satisfied. Those who didn't like the change wouldn't have posted anything in other threads because that might make their "heads or eyes hurt" or something..

How do you know we will become satisfied?

Do you mean "satisfied" as in "yeah that was a great idea!" or "satisfied" as in "well that was a waste of time complaining, so I will give up complaining"

Exactly...an ALTERNATIVE....and all that is being said is that you cannot know one way or the other what people who did NOT express their opinion think. To decide their lack of posting dissent means they are all for it is simply taking something and bending it into "proof" to support your point.

What did that answer have to do with what you quoted? My quote was related to the forum members' opinions on the issue not your experience with formats.

If this is such a great format I wonder why it took you so long to institute it or why the members have not been calling for it all along?

Really...? Some people here complaining posted in other threads. Of all I've said, you've chosen the easiest post to answer, I see. It is strange for the reasons the others say - no posting does not count in affirmative for an idea. There's been a lot of posts/threads I've agreed or disagreed with and not given my opinion on/in. It could be true that the majority of guests or members do like this idea. Difference is, I'm not going to say they do or don't - because we just do not know, do we? It is clear that anyone using the feedback forum to express what they like or don't like are wasting their time. It's funny, I thought of explaining myself, but thought you were more likely to respond if I didn't.

Does it matter what we think or should we give up now? [I reckon I know the answer, and knew it before I made my first post in this thread]

[If only we had emoticons to soften the debate coz I sound far more serious than I am about this lol]

I guess none of our opinions really matter...like most things in the world those with the power choose the direction. It is a minor inconsequential issue but a microcosm of real life nonetheless.

Sometimes the most obvious things are the most difficult to notice. You may want to read this article:

It makes sense that text is what online news users focus on most. Unlike a medium like TV or radio, the Web is used primarily by people who are seeking something specific. Pleasure browsing is less common than specific information seeking and gathering. Eyetrack test subjects seemed to search text elements of a page looking for news, and apparently regarded photos and graphics as of secondary importance.

If PF forum users are looking for information (they are), why to distract them from getting it.

You know, now we'll all get some info from PF since the layout has changed. I was too distracted before... c'mon - do you believe your own reply? It's not even as though the image is gone, as you said before it's easily seen in 0.1 secs. Also, images may be disabled if the person can't concentrate on what they are searching for. [Can non-members even see avatars?] That would maybe be an answer to 'Why have you removed avatars?'

But the article in the link relates to browsers reading tendencies as they relate to news articles. One has consciously sought the opinion (of a particular news organization) and have the knowledge of who is posting the content when starting to read.

In the case of the forum, which is most often like a conversation, one want's to know who is "speaking", hence my preference of having the Poster's info on the right.

I don't think comparing news with the forum has any value. The most active sub-forum on PF is Love and Relationships with almost 27000 replies. Do you honestly think that people post messages without checking pictures first. Get real.
