Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw

A 20 metre building looks more accurate, much as I'd like a giant one. The maquette that was on display showed the apex (is that the right word for a rainbow) about level with a third floor window.

third floor window

Why skimp and cut corners? Before heading for the rubbish heap of history PM Kopacz should announce a nationwide fund-raisng campaign for an impressive homo-rainbow that would span central Warsaw clearing the TV tower of the Palace of Culture. It should be fitted with blinking lights so as not to become an air-traffic hazard.

I'd like that, Po3, however public art is a serious business, and in this case, the city is simply building upon what has been successful and popular. The Polish Rainbow had a huge impact.

an impressive homo-rainbow that would span central Warsaw

Nature does that already...

police should just wait for them

Sounds like the old Keystone Cops! Get with it, Polsyr, this is the 21st century. Never heard of drones -- swift, silent and effective? The rainbow worshippers wouldn't even know what hit it!

I'd like that

I'll bet you would! Just compromised yourself again - you'd be willing to spend any amount of someone else's money to propagandise and promote the perv community.

Dangerous.

The rainbow worshippers

No such people, Po3, except in your imagination.

No such people

You're certianly one of them. You have made more of an adulatory fuss about the rainbow than most people do about their religion. The same old tired buzzwords over and over... "inclusion, diversity, hope". You have gone into a distored form of exultation at the very thought or mention of the rainbow -- its size, location, colour shades, symbolism...and have actually turned the whole silly business into a religion of sorts. And, hey, there's no law against it, so have your fun!

adulatory fuss about the rainbow

You mean defending it from your vile attacks here?

"inclusion, diversity, hope"

Now you understand - that is what the Polish Rainbow symbolises.

the whole silly business into a religion of sorts

Nope, just an art installation which is very popular. Hence being pleased about the re-installation of the old one and the decision to erect the new one. Above all, they symbolise optimism.

Po3: new Rainbow won't receive any grosz from taxpayers, so why should it bother you? Just live and let live!

Apparently the people behind it intend to prosecute anyone that attempts to damage it.

I can't wait to feast my eyes upon the grand new rainbow at Plac Wilsona!

I can't wait

That's all Warsaw needs -- more homo brainwashing, toxic propaganda and STDs!
If that rocks your boat, go for it!

How on earth do you go from a rainbow to brainwashing, propaganda and STDs?

If you don't like it, why don't you bother to vote against it?

I'm worried about the negative attention that the rainbow might attract. the Polish Rainbow in plac Zbawiciela kept getting burnt down by pond dwellers however it was in a smaller Square with people around night and day. This one is in a fairly classy area but is more vulnerable. So far it's stayed fairly under the radar, just one petition that nobody took any notice of, plus a Facebook page. But it doesn't take much to set the moherowe berety off.

negative attention

This whole thing is an ersatz subject and media circus not worth the airtime or newsprint.
Especially when society is faced by so many serious problems including the refugee crisis, global warming and the depletion of natural resources. In a country such as Poland, naturally inclined to divisivness and partisanship, anything that needłessly antagonises and polarises people should be downplayed, not highlighted. All the more so that this issue concerns only a a tiny fringe group which is playing a disruptive, destabilising role in society.

All of that is all the more reason for public art like the Polish Rainbow. It will be interesting for some to watch all the fuss about the new one, but since most people like the rainbow, the moaning minnies will just have to shut up and put up.

Vandalism, Grzegorz, is sadly the norm in Poland, however the vandals were defeated last time and will be this time. After all, the Polish Rainbow is a symbol of among other things, the triumph of hope.

Vandalism

The real vandals are those who wish to contaminate public space with a kitschy eyesore of a monstrosity being passed off by fringe nutters as a "work of art".
jon357 74 | 21,778
7 Sep 2015 #200
So you consider the Adam Mickiewicz Foundation, sponsors of the first Polish Rainbow to be 'vandals'?

Perhaps you'd prefer a statue of Zimny Lech that says "spieprzaj dziadu" whenever you stick a zloty in the slot.

If you start a public campaign for donations to put one of those statues in pl Hipstera, put me on the list for a 100zl contribution. I reckon one of those would be ideal for the square in question.

Could become a top tourist attraction, and would fit entirely in with the whole TKM philosophy.

Polish Rainbow

I can hear your chuckling during this trolling exercise of yours. There is no plan to create a new rainbow in Pl. Wilsona. Otherwise there would be something about it on the net.

Meanwhile, here is an image to warm your heart:

Po3, the Internet is far from the be all and end all. You evidently missed the display in the metro station. And btw, there is already info about the project online - you just haven't looked hard enough or in the right places...

By the way, Po3, your link is to an article from two years ago.

You need to look for the Rainbow at Plac Wilsona in Swedish media. I have not seen anything about it in Polish media, except a petition against it that gathered under 30 votes and then disappeared all together.

And you're getting all this 20-storey building size from the Swedish media which you can read fluently?
jon357 74 | 21,778
7 Sep 2015 #207
The model of it's been on display in at least three locations, Po3. And the longer its internet presence is low-key the better, given the hostility from the far-right with the first Polish Rainbow.

Nope, Po3. The siting of the Polish Rainbow by the Adam Mickiewicz Foundation was and is a very serious thing and though you may pretend it's 'trolling' the rolling out of the idea is deadly serious and the second Rainbow will be an asset to Warsaw. As far as I know, the maquette plus CGI images are due to be displayed again - lets go and have a look and you can buy me a drink at the same time by way of an apology for the accusation of 'trolling'.
