Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw

Jon357, The A.M foundation supported and financed the artwork on the bassis of its cultual representation for Poland. Once the artwork returned to Poland and was placed in plac Z, the LGBT community adopted the artwork as a represtation of ' gay pride' rainbow which was never the intention of the Artist or the A.M foundation. On that bassis the artwork was never a representatin of sexual equality or gay rights, all those who suggest other are trolling.

I'd say the people of the city took it to their hearts.


Yes, absolutely. Sadly some of the homophobes here seem to think it was. The Polish Rainbow is more an optimistic symbol of hope, inclusivity and diversity.

Jon357, I believe you are being a touch over optimistic. The artwork has certainly divided Warsaw, the main catalyst of the division in my opinion was in the artist coming out in favor of the LGBT community. Julka now considers herself a voice for LGBT, which I believe was short sighted on her part.

And this sort of hysterical tosh from riffraff was what the Polish Rainbow's sponsors had to put up with. Nevertheless, it had far more supporters than detractors. Hence the re-erection near the Institute for Contemporary Arts and the similar structure commissioned by another group for elsewhere.

The original intentions of the artist and the A.M foundation are very progressive. The final result being two ideologies stripping art for political gain. Which is so Polish...

Bingo. But no ideological reaction on the part of any organised LGBT movement which has priorities elsewhere. All the fuss has been entirely aside from that and the artist has absolutely loved the media attention. I do wonder what Gombrowicz would have made of it all.

All in all, the installation has been a great success.

Far from it. I wonder why you even think I said that? Her installation has however certainly received a massive amount of positive publicity - no bad thing. It's easy to forget that plac Zbawiciela was the third location for it and it had already been in Brussels - so huge the publicity has been (worldwide) about it while it was in the city centre.


There isn't one single 'movement' as such who, no single spokesperson who can speak on behalf of everyone. Just a few not for profit organisations with specific remits and a few businesses. Not that I've ever heard Julita Wójcik described by anyone as being particularly 'self-serving'.

Nope. The Polish Rainbow is being re-erected elsewhere in the city - this was always the plan. It will be near Ujazdowski Castle. This has been reported already in the media.

The second rainbow - nothing to do with the first, not the same artist, design or sponsor, is a different matter.

The sso link doesn't work but the CSW museum is not a bad location. It's an out-of-the-way site for most locals and tourists. And why not have a gallery of decadent-pervy quasi-art? After all, there's a house of stalinesque horrors (statuary, portraits, etc.) in Kozłowka.


Who cares about your obsessive rainbow. Go dance round it holding hands with your fellow-alternatives. The rainbow is but a kitschy artefact -- here today, gone tomorrow. It is what it has come to symbolise that poses a threat to society, so let's dicuss that a bit rather than obsessing over a pile of twisted scrap metal.

Anyway, to get back to the topic, is that gay bar just off pl Zbawiciela still open? Not the lesbian crepe place, the gay music bar down a bit from pl Hipstera off Marszalkowska. I remember being dragged into that place a decade ago to see a transvestite rockabilly band fronted by a very strange man. Or actually, now I think about it, maybe only the lead singer was in drag. I do remember that they tried to hide utter lack of musical ability with sheer volume but succeeded only in blowing the fuses repeated.

Down from plac Zbawiciela, towards pl Unii Lubelski? If it's the place I think, they demolished the whole building and the club there (behind and above a Bulgarian restaurant?) moved nearer centrum (and went a bit more upmarket, not that it would be hard). No grizzly middle-aged fat crossdressing musicians, just drinks and a dj.

That's one of the things about siting the first Polish Rainbow in plac Zbawiciela - it's a very eclectic district with more people out clubbing and partying of an evening than ever darken the door of that church.

So that's where it went! I'm pretty sure that cheap (under the table) Bulgarian vodka in that restaurant by pl Zbawiciela had quite a lot to do with me going to see a transvestite rockabilly singer in the first place (apparently he used to teach at the same school as one of my former colleagues). I remember seeing the same bloke also being thrown out of the lesbian crepe place on pl Zbawiciela for being paralytic at lunchtime on a Thursday (which they didn't mind) and loudly demanding the staff play the latest demo tape by his rockabilly/punk band (which they did object to, and I don't even think they'd even heard the tape).

I think I know who you mean - a regular fixture in the dives around plac Zbawiciela and a big supporter of the Polish Rainbow there (when coherent). What's his/her name(s)? I can never remember.

All depends hoew one defines "interesting". People also go to zoos and attend freak shows because they find them interesting.

Most of us however do not. Nor do we rant and rave about homosexuality to the extent that we start 30 plus threads on an internet forum and comb the internet looking for stuff (pictures too?) about it. Nor do most people who've seen it have any objections to the Polish Rainbows either.

The rainbow was commissioned as artwork to represent Polish culture it was never a symbol of gay pride, the gay pride flag is made up of 7 or 8 colors, the Polish rainbow is made up of 6. The saddest part for me is now people are jumping on the bandwagon to create more rainbows in Warsaw which will detract from the artists original message.

Nobody does think that - except perhaps Po3 and a tiny number of people who are obsessed.

I rather like the rainbow - its symbolism is very broad and the fact that there's another one is rather positive.

They had to make it a hologram because every time they made it out of other materials it was promptly set on fire or otherwise destroyed. I'm willing to bet this one will soon be destroyed too.

No political forces, nor is it a monument. It was an art installation and is currently elsewhere. The rainbow was recreated briefly recently and was popular.

Perhaps they could teach this fairytale romance to Kindergarten children, like a new form of Romeo and Juliet.

They already have those kinds of books and are trying to push this on e European kids to warp their minds. For example 10k copies of a book called misha and her moms go to the Olympics was sent to Russian kids. Now you have public libraries with drag Queens (basically broke trannies who can't afford a sex change) reading pro lgbt kids books. Several grade school teachers even admitted to pushing this agenda by selecting books like daddy's new roommate to read to little kids. The lgbt lobby is now demanding that their agenda be included in sex ed.

First it was gay unions, then marriage, then trannies, then lgbt got expanded by a bunch of.more letters, now it's pushing trannies to have their own bathrooms and tomorrow it'll be an agenda that pushing sex and marriage with objects and even pedophilia. Salon.com a leading pro lgbt outlet already published pro pedo articles.

And the liberals are appalled that Poland wants to nip this in the bud and keep marriage between man and woman. Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Personally I think they should just go.the way Russia did and ban all lgbt media and imprison those trying to warp children's minds.
