Well, I'm off. It only took about 30 minutes for this thread to be contaminated by the same old morons.

Why? Would you have a problem with a statue of Lucifer in your town? It may seem like a ridiculous question to you, but I'm actually trying to tell you something else.

;)

David_18:
HAHA a 35m tall Lucifer statue would for sure bring aloot of tourism to Swiebodzin!! Not exactly something you see everyday ;)

Exactly my thoughts.

Torq:
No worries, lads. If you really want to see Lucifer, then eventually you will.

Suuuure. As if you know anything about what happens after we're not here anymore. But if you do, you should write a book about that, because it seems to me a lot of people are dying to find out.

On a side note, isn't this idolatry?

The RCC is rather big on idolatry! But they don't see it as a sin in the same way that Protestant churches do, so I guess it's no problem on their part.

grubas:
Dude are you phucking crazy?People in Poland want more statues not some bullshit like orphanages or hospitals.Phuck no.Every town and village should have AT LEAST 3 statues:Jesus,JP II and Kaczynski. Each minimum 35 meters high.

No no, Kaczynski's statue must be bigger. He is the Second Coming, after all.

Why is no-one fuming, fulminating at the mouth and lashing out in hysterical frenzy at Rio de Janeiro's statue which inspired the one at 安iebodzin?

Because it's Rio de Janeiro. It's not some provincial backwater village in a minor European country.

Anyway, we're not fuming, but laughing.

Could be that Rio is a huge city and 安iebodzin is a small town. Plus Rio's Statue is build on a mountain, not a small hill. It will just look comic to build a huge statue in the middle of nowhere...

安iebodzin

Rio de Janeiro

After all, when that statue goes up in Amsterdam dedicated to Eastern European hookers, marijuana, and homos, I will just bite my tongue and look the other way.

I would gladly exchange this statue for hookers and weed.

Consider it an investment... Tourists to pay admission... admission can go towards orphanages.... repeat for years to come.

Giant Jesus Rising in 安iebodzin

Nothing's wrong with it guys. Poles lived under the Russian occupation and had to take all kinds of Soviet symbols long enough. The church was the only institution that gave them hope. The statue of Jesus is probably seen as a symbol of freedom of Poles and Poland.

Ain't this a little bit to much? In the communist times it would be a huge stalin statue.

Would you rather have a Jesus statue or a country that resembles France? Cant you see that the Muslims are taking over Europe? There must be 40 million by now, you should be glad that you live in Poland:)

1% of the population: Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia. 1%-2% of the population: Belarus, Croatia, Italy, Monaco, Ukraine. 2%-4% of the population: Andorra, Denmark, Luxembourg, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain. 4%-5% of the population: Germany, Greece, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, United Kingdom. 5%-10% of the population: Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Sweden. 10%-20% of the population: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Montenegro, Russia. 30%-50% of the population: Bosnia Herzegovina, Macedonia, Albania. 70%-90% of the population: Kosovo. 90%-100% of the population: Turkey.

So within the European Union, we have an estimated number of 16-20 million Muslims and about 813-820 million Europeans. If we're going to count Turkey, Russia and a few other countries, then we would have an estimated number of about 53 million Muslims. Keep in mind that no one has the exact figures, but looking at various sources, I'd say that these estimations are pretty close to reality.

:)

The idea of the huge statue is embarrassing. Why is my old country going so backward? When will the people see the light that the church want to put them back in the middle ages? You know..serfs to the church... Please wake up! You did not get yourself free form communism only to get entangled in the rosary chains. Down with TRWAM.

The message is simple: This is Poland. This is a Jesus Country, so phunk off!

Simple but elegant indeed, distilling the essence of Christianity and Polish patriotism into two brilliant sentences! Man you've got a talent, this should be the preface for the new Polish Bible edition, unadulterated and pure... (and uncensored ).

To the critics here: Raise your hand if you applauded when the Taliban was dynamiting the giant statues of Budda in Afganistan. Well, I didn't think so.

A Polish-American family has been carving the Crazy Horse statue out of a moutain in South Dakota for years now.

And the Sioux country is beautiful.
The memorial was commissioned by Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear to be sculpted by Korczak Ziolkowski.

The monument has been in progress since 1948 and is still far from completion.[1] If completed, it may become the world's largest sculpture.[2]

Let people build statues, Jesus statue is fine for me in this country; we had the Lenin statues already so time for change. :)

I don't worship guys in dresses who are trying to tell me that women are evil, and that having sex with them is a sin.

I'm glad you converse with priests, but I think they were just messing with your head. lol

How in the hell is this gonna increase foreign tourism? I am assuming that this statue is gonna be in the middle of nowhere so why would a Brit or an American fly all the way to Poland just to travel for hours in a car from the airport to see this statue and nothing else?

Why oh why did the op have to slip another superlative into the title again? Wasnt the title 'Giant Jesus rising' enough? Typical Polish.

This is alnoist as rediculous as this Radio Maria group who want to oficially make Jesus the King of Poland.

when will this country free itself from the clutches of the RCC?

Maybe they like Jesus and want to see the statue. When giant staues fall they need to be in the boondocks, so don't complain.

Personally, I would like a giant King Kong built in the place of Pa豉c Kultury. As new highrise buildings increase in Warsaw, the effect would get better and better. The whole urban planning would be around the kong. Talk about tourism then.

But where is the nearest airport to this place? Or the nearest big city???? I imagine as a Brit, I would fly to see this Jesus statue, then wht do I do after? Head to the local sklep spozywczy and get drunk with the local farmers I suppose.

you should write a book about that

Write a book about hell? There's no need for me to do that. There are already countless
books on the subject.

Anyway - the statue of Jesus is being built and the best thing is, that there is absolutely
nothing that godless twats on this forum (or anywhere else) can do about it :)

*apart from frothing at the mouth :)*

Truly, a missed opportunity.

As for 安iebodzin, I drive past it or through it on the way to the German border. Bizarre choice of location. If you want somewhere provincial yet accessible, the hills above Gorz闚 WLKP would have been ideal - land cheap as chips, maximum visibility in all directions, and JP2 visited in 1997.

(What's more, it would show that you in fact can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear)

Manmade art can only compliment nature so, yes, it would be good to work with her with a large statue as this one. Missed opportunities abound.
