This guy's career is booming. He makes his living making jokes at Judaism and laughs at Jews.

Lewis Black is Jewish. Stephen Colbert is Catholic...A Sunday school teacher at that.

colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/76152/october-02-2006/sign-off---actual-apologies

Colbert gets millions of viewers. It's just free press.

Anyway, try not to take things so seriously, Poland has a giant Jesus now, should be a happy time for you :)

Who is taking it seriously? Me? nah, People who build the giant statue are taking this seriously for sure. See, I'm not the one stacking up bricks 165 feet tall to build a giant Jesus. I'm just screaming as loud as i can, YOU GUYS ARE FVCKING STUPID FANATICS, while I'm LMAO...

I could build a 165 feet tall giant cat in my backyard, i have the resources to do it...
(well would have to sell everything and live under a bridge afterwards)

...I just think it's a stupid idea, even though I really like my cat, you know...

I'm happy for the giant Jesus, i think it's awesome, yeah way to fuk go...

Wow. They're putting up a huge statue of Jesus in Poland? I'm amazed because they would never allow that in the U.S. Poland seems to have a lot more freedom of "religious" expression. There was a much smaller cross in the desert of California to honor the memory of fallen soldiers. It was isolated and hardly visible and on private land but an organization fought in court to have it removed. When they were denied, someone cut it down.

Wolfie, the key words here are: People's Republic of Kalifornia. The "honorable" chairwoman of Pelosistan would rather see a huge statue of Mao Dingdong or her cousin Hugo Shoveit than a simple wooden cross in your state.

You mean he shouldn't feel hurt by the racist in its nature insult? Why shouldn't he do that? By the way, isn't it you, convex, who stated Americans don't know much about Poland? Isn't the "joke" in question one more proof that, after all, Americans know something about Poland? What is it they mostly know about Poland, and mostly who provides the kind of knowledge about Poland to them?

There are far more important aims to which we could put the money -- sick children, for example, orphanages, old people. Do we really have to build a big Jesus which the project cost USD 1.45 M for statue to make people believe

This is what people in the US think about this. They're laughing at us in Poland.

Actually I don't think Colbert was that hard on Poland. He could have said worse things about Poland. If it was years ago, he probably would have. He was also making fun of Americans and people making big statues in general. Although I will admit there was somewhat of an Anti-Christian overtone in his presentation.

But he does this with just about every big news event in any place in the world. He can take the most mild story and exxagerate it.

I must have missed the racist insult in there.

By the way, isn't it you, convex, who stated Americans don't know much about Poland?

Most Americans don't know much about Poland because they don't care about Poland. Seems pretty natural.

Isn't the "joke" in question one more proof that, after all, Americans know something about Poland?

You mean that it exists? Sure, I'll go with the majority of Americans definitely know that Poland exists, and can probably relate to a "Giant Jesus gap" joke. Either way, great piece as usual from Colbert.

There are far more important aims to which we could put the money -- sick children, for example, orphanages, old people. Do we really have to build a big Jesus which the project cost USD 1.45 M for statue to make people believe

I think that they little comic strip on the last page addressed this ;) If we used this same argument, there would be no statues anywhere in the world.

it's about money a tourist trap, people will come and see it from all over the world
it is just old fashion greed wrap in fate

They said that from the beginning.

I just think it's neat that an invisible man who preached against idols gets turned into a giant concrete statue. Strange world.

Doubt they noticed. Giant Jesus dramatically overlooking a cliff and the beaches of Rio... or Giant Jesus overlooking a highway.

...I don't think Rio has too much to worry about :)

... or even, if the Polish people make too much mockery of their fantastic statue, will think of joining the [now Fourth?] Reich again? By the way, what was the name of the town under the third Reich? I have just come back from a visit to the region of Lower Silesia where as usual I paid attention to its German past in combination with its Polish present, but that's a subject for a separate thread.

"I don't care if it rains or freezes

I substituted my magnetized as$ Jesus with a plastic Polack figurine.
It’s riding on the dashboard of my car and it greets everyone who dares to look with the finger

I think i've made about 20 negative giant Jesus references since the completion of the statue. I can see now that the GJ has made a positive impact on me. I'm spent.

Bear in mind that the current statue is one of a few options that were considered.

Haha, I just realized that Poland built a giant statue of a Jew :) That should lay all the claims of antisemitism to rest :)

PS, note to self, life ambition, build giant Cthulu statute.

They shouldn't build it at all...

Let the love that Jesus lived for be built into the hearts of men and women of Poland and the rest of the world.

By the way, had Jesus been alive he would never have gotten the VISA to most of the countries where He is followed. Infact, he would be abused for his goodness, and might even have to face racism by some skinheads in Europe... unfortunately.

Repair your inner selves ... a statue would do no good! ... Also, its not in the spirit of Christianity to build statues of Christ.

Repair your inner selves

It starts with repairing our society really, and how we treat eachother. I mean, you can't ask a hungry man to have the decency not to be angry at a man who's taking everything away from him in the name of freedom. (I don't think it will ever happen though.)

If all of us concentrate on repairing our own inner selves ... it will have an impact on society. As for the hungry man example ... he should not get angry or snatch the food. However if the government is irresponsible, they should rise together. If its about him and a man with alot of food, he should work harder and try to earn his rightful share. There is no shortcut, there never was. Its a part of repairing the inner self...

It comes from the heart ...

We have great Polish, Universal and other Philosophies too. Asian philosophies are also great. Natasa ... smile to good things, it will make you feel a rejuvenated person. While doing something good for others around you will make you get a new life. The fountain of youth is surely the practice of justice and sincerity, the teaching of living!
