Polish MP lives as a migrant in London earning £100

Full marks for actually doing something about it rather than just talk talk talk.

A Polish MP has flown to Britain to live as a migrant worker on £100 a week to find out why so many from his country prefer the UK to home. Artur Debski arrived on a budget flight over the weekend, is currently looking for a job, and is living in a £10 a night room in Wandsworth, south-west London. Mr Debski is heading to the Job Centre to find work because he believes the system could be used back home. The politician, a regular on Polish TV, says he wanted to live the life chosen by more than one million Poles, who have flocked to Britain despite Poland having one of the EU's strongest economies. 'I have been in London for two days and have no job. It is not easy', he told MailOnline.

A stunt, but a good one. At least he's actually showing some initiative instead of hiding in an office on ul. Wiejska.

Since 2004 more than a million Poles have moved to the UK and a recent poll found 70 per cent of people in the country would consider coming here.

not coming here but a recent poll found 70 per cent of people in the country would consider emigrating.

in a £10 a night room

Pretty much impossible at that price in London, even in sheds with beds. He's been very fortunate or he's kipping at a mate's.

You can get a fairly nasty room in a shared house in Tottenham for 60 or 70 per week. With a wobbly lock on your room, strangers in and out and not an English person on the street. And a long way from the tube. Plenty live like that.

I'm sure he is cheating as he wouldn't have lasted a day on that money.

It's like one of those programs when a guy is out in the woods on his own, trying to survive, but has a camera crew with him who are bound to have more than enough supplies. He's just doing this so he can go on TVN's Kawa na Lawe in a few weeks time and boast about having actually tried to live like this. Sure doing this is better than not doing it, but nothing will come of it.

It's just a stunt to attack the government [who deserve to be attacked I suppose] and say, 'hey, Polish people would rather live in British, far from perfect conditions, in some crappy room earning minimum wage, than stay in Poland.

Here's the next instalment. personally I wouldn't fancy living on 100 gbp per week in Warsaw either - it's poverty wages there even if you have free accommodation:

A Polish MP is working as a handyman in London as he tries to find out why so many young Poles come to the UK. Artur Debski believes learning from UK strengths can help Poland tackle its "dangerous" emigration problem.

He arrived on 5 April to live as a migrant - and said he quickly found it was "not possible" to survive in London on his self-imposed £100 weekly budget. But he said Britain's "friendly" system attracted businesses and people - while the London Underground was "very good". Mr Debski told the BBC that London was a "special city" and all the British people he had met were "very nice".

Too bad the Polish aren't going there to work. They are going for the free medical, free housing, free food, etc.
it is a shame too because these same people would want to stay in their own homeland, but cannot resist obtaining what they KNOW they will not in their own homeland. The Polish want to stay in their own country, but some as in MILLIONS and MILLIONS cannot, they must try to help their family. Perhaps if he had applied for the free benefits the EU has determined UK MUST give to the Poles he wouldn't have left either.

Just like the 15 million illegal Mexicans are doing here in the U.S.A.
The cost to our governments have stressed the welfare systems to the maximum.
They take away many entitlements that belong to the citizens of our country.
They have not been vaccinated bringing disease, require Spanish speaking teachers for their kids, learn every
welfare program available within a week and worst of all vote democrate.
I have heard how England is being stressed by 'foreigners for welfare' just like the U.S.A. costing the taxpayers a fortune.
Unfortunately it just one more nail in the coffin that has destroyed America.
Let me ad however that EVERY Polish migrant that I know in the U.S.A. has a job and works very hard without being on welfare.

Yet you totally disregard the net benefits these low wage workers have on the economy and on keeping the costs below their market value...

Just like the 15 million illegal Mexicans are doing here in the U.S.A..

So it appears that the inhabitants native to the Americas are reclaiming they lands back...

Let me ad however that EVERY Polish migrant that I know in the U.S.A. has a job and works very hard without being on welfare.

And EVERY Mexican migrant I know in the US has a job and works very hard without being on welfare.

What do you have against Mexicans? Yes some do abuse the system like everywhere else but overwhelming numbers don't.
I live here, they are hard working people, on very low wages.
When there is harvest time in California or wherever the Border dudes look the other way, because nobody would do such jobs as the Mexicans do.

Bringing the disease? What type? Because I am not aware of any, name one please.
Spanish teachers? I know Italian folks who are here for over 50+ years and they barely speak English.
Vote democrat ? I see no difference between the democrats vs republicans, they both failed, the last good president was Ronald Reagan.
Now I cannot tell apart democrat from republican. The good republicans are hunted like a dogs by politically correct population (Mass Media, Talk Shows, and even fellow Republicans)

I have heard how England is being stressed by 'foreigners for welfare' just like the U.S.A. costing the taxpayers a fortune.

looking for scapegoats? I pay taxes as well, and no Mexican ever bothered me.

Unfortunately it just one more nail in the coffin that has destroyed America.

You know, R. Nixon reestablished Chinese-American relations and Bill Clinton is the one who sold America.
remember 1998?

Headline from CNN

Clinton Defends China Trip, Engagement Policy

The two-way trade volume reached US$54.94 billion in 1998, a 12.1% increase over that of 1997. China's exports to the U.S. reached US$37.98 billion, an increase of 16.1%, while China's imports from the U.S. reached US$16.96 billion, an increase of 4.0%. China saw a favorable trade balance of US$21.02 billion in 1998. In the period from January to June 1999, China-U.S. bilateral trade volume totaled US$27.12 billion, increasing by 11.5% over that of the first half of 1998, with China's exports to the U.S. reaching US$18.11 billion, an increase of 8.4%, and China's imports from the U.S. US$9.00 billion.

china.org.cn/world/china_us_facts_2011/2011-07/08/content_22951212.htm

Remember? that was the beginning of America downfall. Just do the math.

And here is your nail in the coffin in 2000.

Clinton Signs China Trade Bill into Law.
the legislation ends the 20-year-old annual ritual of reviewing China's trade status and guarantees Chinese goods the same low-tariff access to the U.S. market as products from nearly every other nation.

Since then all factories moved from US to Asia. Blue collar workers unable to find jobs, there are rich and poor and very little in the middle.

US became service, financial & intellectual (like silicon valley for example) oriented economy.

So don't blame Mexicans or other immigrants for the present situation in America. US legal tender currency is worthless, being printed 24/7/365 faster than any newspaper.

And last but not least, Never heard of any Pole being on welfare in US, or more precisely, never came across one.

Can ALL posters stick to the topic please, this is about a Polish MP living as a migrant in London.

well I wonder where he found a room for 'ten pounds a night' unless he is sharing it with others. I smell BS.

Sorry.
Well, I admire the Polish MP that he did that. Poland is losing tons of well educated people who do some odd jobs in UK,

There are some who succeeded, and got good jobs accordingly to their qualifications. But this ain't no long-term solution for Poland.
Hard for me to believe that he (the MP) could get by with £100 weekly budget. Very tight.
If true, I take my hat off to Artur Debski.

I wouldn't worry, Immigrants will take the place of natives and you might find they have a stronger work ethic than those who left.

They have introduced new law's to help immigrants look for work and raise the levels of non-EU immigrants in Poland.

It all looks very promising for them and good luck to them.

Tottenham probably. A bus ride (except they walk) from Seven Sisters Tube (which they can't afford every day either). That's the going rate for a room there with something wrong with it, in a shared house full of mostly Polish strangers.
