Just a little video to remind as many of us as possible that whatever our religious or non-religious beliefs, not everyone has family and resources during the holiday season -- which can be a very lonely and isolating time for some members of society.

In common with many other cities, Krakow gave away free meals in the city centre/rynek today and I'm guessing will do so tomorrow and Xmas eve too. Similar happens in towns and cities in Britain, where of course foodbank use has risen dramatically across all sections of the community in the past year or two (similar in New York).

With the financial crisis many people worldwide are now living below the poverty line. In Poland there are many causes in severe need of donations, my local church St Annes in Warsaw is very active in collecting for the needy this year they have seen a shortfall in the number of people willing to adopt a family for Christmas. Charity beigns at home in your local community where it will have the most positive impact. if anyone in Warsaw wishes to makes a direct donation to a needy cause I can provide you with the direct contact details of two hospice's who are very much in need of funding.

Good work from many churches. I have seen homeless and vulnerable visit local church offices here for, I assume, some sort of help.

But, why would they see a shortfall if the economy is recovering in "Poland A", with people or families doing better, as is being reported?

Additionally, I have observed some rents here have ascended to ridiculous levels with some landlords (you'd think it was Warsaw), and still my old apartment remains a void although it now looks cheap compared to the ludicrous rents I'm seeing advertised more and more over the past 2 weeks.

Polish Cardinal restores power to those in need

I saw this story today, and I think it's a remarkable example of someone doing the right thing.

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski said he acted in "desperation" because the occupants of the state-owned property had spent a week without power and hot water.

There are more than 400 people are living in the building, including at least 100 children. For him to take matters into his own hands to restore their electricity is a commendable one, and the world would be a much better place if there were more people like Cardinal Krajewski.
