It would be interesting to know how much that Church has cost to taxpayers and more generally how much money the RCC in Poland gets from taxpayers. At the same time, at Centrum Onkologii there is periodically lack of some medication, a lot of retired folks cannot buy their prescriptions and some people just survive.

Church has cost to taxpayers

Now we know why Britain is called a nation with a shopkeeper's mentality. They know the price of everything but the value of nothing!

One number that I've seen thrown around is that the RCC is paid around 1.2 billion zloty annually for providing religion lessons in schools, for instance.

Can we stick to the topic

We can only hope that President-Elect Duda will be as quick to lunge to the ground in order to prevent public funds being spent on private projects as he was to stop a wafer remaining on the ground.

Indeed. Vanity/political-mischief making projects like that building only really work if there's the substance behind those who were wanted and use it. Here there isn't. The Dud and his backers don't have the credibility and the PiSuarzy made Poland an object of ridicule during their short time in office - this building will be a testament to that ridicule.

The right-wing media making a meal of the Dud picking a wafer up just underlines that.

It says a lot about the credibility of such media. Picking a wafer off the ground is somehow noteworthy in their world.

Were it not for the video of the event which was featured very prominently on sites such as churchmilitant.com (seriously, www. churchmilitant.com/news/article/communion-in-the-hand-video) one would also wonder if it actually even happened. Certain media are well known for writing about certain things which have never actually happened, for example there was recently a story written about a rainbow in Warsaw in a square which is, supposedly, "patrolled round the clock by riot police with attack dogs".

Moderated I respectfully remind you that in the eyes of the faithful this is not a wafer but the sacred body and blood of Jesus. Sadly that bit of it was contaminated by the hand of Duda.

Indeed. A good friend who's a priest had to burn the hoover bag after someone threw up at the altar and it went everywhere - apparently you're supposed to burn the carpet in theory. I think you can also bury it in clean earth, or is that just Anglican? I quite like the way the NeoCatetchumenate people (very big in Warsaw now) do it with real bread. I tend to think that only the wafers/wine you consume or are reserved for consumption or adoration contain the real presence, crumbs and wafer that fall on the floor don't quite count as long as they're dealt with respectfully.

I've also never understood the controversy in Poland about receiving in the hand - no problem elsewhere in the RCC, at least not in England nowadays.

With the Dud it was just a common sense gesture that the media picked up on because certain sections of the public might impute something about it...

That is how you prove what a true Christian you are.

Nope. It's generally proved by how you treat your fellow humans and other animals (particularly the weakest and most flawed among us) as well as how we interact with society and the planet we live on.

Does that include normal married families with children who go to church, and believe that sodomy is wrong and oppose calling sinful conduct a "right"?

providing religion lessons in schools

Where should they be provided -- in a homo brothel?

They're not normal if they spend their time thinking about sodomy, that's for sure. I'd be slightly worried if my wife spent anywhere near as much time as you do thinking about sodomy!

Where should they be provided -- in a homo brothel?

I'm staggered that you would even suggest that Catholic religion classes should take place in a gay brothel.

Article in Polish, stating that Duda said something that translates to roughly: "we as believers are better equipped to repair the republic".

This statement appears to undermine democratic principles by associating a citizen's performance with their religious beliefs, not to mention undermining Poland's constitution which guarantees equality to all citizens irrespective of faith.

Like many predicted, only a matter of time before his foot goes in his mouth. We shall look forward to more statements of the same quality from this gentleman.

believers are better

The phrasing may rattle the godless, but it's a fact that an idealistic, altrusitc "love thy neighbour" philosophy is better suited to serve the public welfare than the advocates of egoism, materialism and hedonism who are in it only for themselves.

Many decent politicans in different democratic countries invoke a higher ideal -- only the motley collection of rattle-brained anarchos and lefties do not.

ltrusitc "love thy neighbour" philosophy

It is not unique to any particular faith.
