@Jedrzej: for sure, a lot of money has ended up in local politicians's and their friends' pockets (what about all these small towns in Poland with airports built but no planes???? ;)) but the overall Polish population has benefitted a lot thereof (transportation, such as the metro in Warsaw, hospitals, railroad stations , roads ...built or renovated. Yet, I agree that a lot of the money has ended up in some pockets...

Hats off to you Harry for your generosity. The markets are spooked because PIS would be just as generous (with our money) with their laughable 500 zl for each child "promise."

Simpler and cheaper just to make child health care free until the age of 18.

Just like Polish convicts felt Komorowski would be better for the crime community, so too Western market circles are now trembling in their boots. The foreign banks that have brainwashed Poles into living above their means and lured them into debt traps now fear they may have to pay their fair share of taxes or lend a helping hand to the Swiss frank credit-takers. Or the foreign corporations that own the big supermarket chains which pay cashiers starvation wages and force them to wear Pampers because they're not allowed to leave their posts are also worried they may have to provide decent working conditions. Not to mention the PO-linked local officials lining their pockets with EU grants and subsidies.

And 4/5 of American Poles voted for Duda.

They know that it's best not to live in a country ruled by PiS.

The foreign banks that have brainwashed Poles into living above their means and lured them into debt traps

Not everybody was able to make use of the special connections they had made during the communist era in order to buy property for a song, some people actually needed to pay a fair price for their property.

lend a helping hand to the Swiss frank credit-takers.

Why should anybody be forced to help speculators who are no longer happy with the bet they made? Why should we be forced to help them?

As for the rest of your post, we'll just have to file that away with your famous claim that the EU was going to force all Polish parents to micro-chip their newborn babies, i.e. put it in the big round file.

Being a socialist you wouldn't understand that capitas doesn't 'tremble in their boots', it's simply moves elsewhere. That's capitalism.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Scam artists, corrupt officials, foreign exploiters and other who have only their own selfish interests (not that of the Polish nation) in mind are uneasy about the prospect of being exposed, swept away or even landing behind bars.

P.S. Too bad you didn't donate to the Pampers for Supermarket Cashiers Relief Fund.

foreign exploiters and other who have only their own selfish interests (not that of the Polish nation) in mind

You mean like the foreigners in Poland who use the connections they gained during communist times to purchase property from the Polish state for knock-down prices? Well, I know for a fact that at least one of such foreigners would have voted for Duda if he had been able to; luckily he wasn't able to and never will be (not unless he gives up his prized status as a citizen of another country).

I know of no such case, but the PO-linked scam artists, pocket-liners and flunkies of exploitative foreign corporations are ten a penny.

BTW now with Poland finally cleaning up their act, you've got deviant-loving "Catholic"(?!) Ireland to move to. You feel more comfortable in decadent surroundings, don't you?
Harry
26 May 2015 #399
I know of no such case

Are you entirely sure about that? Really?

Of course, with a PIS president we see his true colours. Although Komorowski is still the president until August, we have Duda buggering off to Czestochowa to genefluct before the Black Madonna etc, instead of going to Warsaw/the Stock Exchange and bowing down before them, and reassuring the markets that it's business as usual..

Oh man the less people like you in Poland and the world, the better. Yeah let's teach people to bow to money.

As for the result itself, that I have not yet commented on, I am happy, but expected more of a margin than what we got. Perhaps PO managed to fix some of the votes, but not as many as they were hoping to?

Now hopefully PiS can win in the elections later this year. If Kukiz forms a party, PiS have a chance to win and create a coalition with his party. No more corrupt PO would be a blessing for Poland.

Poland should go out of the EU ASAP.

If you want to ruin Poland's economy, go ahead. The millions of Poles living in the EU would probably have to go home, Poland's exports to EU members would become prohibitively expensive due to import duties, and the country would lose its main advantage (the one that attracted most foreign investors in the first place) as a cheap location for companies manufacturing/providing services for the EU market. Are you really sure you want that?

@TheOther: absolutely! Poland cannot do without EU's money... The president-elect and those around him know it.

Absolutely. Never got anything in life at knock-doiwn prices. Always paid top dollar.

absolutely! Poland cannot do without EU's money... The president-elect and those around him know it.

Poles would still be bumbling around like headless chickens without the billions of zlotys of EU money. ALL infrastructure that you use day to day is 66 % EU money. Poles would be stuck all day on unfinished one lane "highways" if it weren't for the EU.

No wonder in 1919 a group of British bureaucrats were on record as saying (sic) "NO, don't give the Poles their Sovereignty - They are difficult and obtuse and will cause problems" - ergo everything in the garden was roses with PO - but no, some Poles expect to be handed things on a plate.

Poland B goes and causes problems by expecting hand outs. Just like in communism. Y
You've never had it so good - to quote McMillan - and you're still biatching.

Laughable.

Er - just rea.d your post properly LOL - yes - I agree with you! The post still stands for those PIS clowns who don't bow to Brussels and give thanks to the virgin Mary for their deliverance from 30 billion dollars worth of IMF debt

Bashing people from east Poland for wanting free money, yet wanting and expecting free money from others(EU)?
Pis is not even remotely close to EU in terms of "social"polisies..EU is approaching USSR level

am sure ,he will have pro Serbian policies, cus hes a good guy..hehhehe

we have actually very interesting situation, new to historical relations between Poland and Serbia. We shall see Duda`s game. i have impression that till now (in last 10 years) official Poland expect that official Serbia blindly follow Poland, while Serbians expect elementary solidarity by official Poland. So far, official Serbia followed very little, while official Poland gave little of solidarity. Poland seams to be oriented solely on one interest circles within west of Europe and USA, while Serbia giving its best to be open for good business and political relations with all major players of the world.

Since the existence of the written historical data, since middle age, relationship of Poland and Serbia was sincere partnership, solidarity and understanding.

I doubt he will see the Serbs as they are too far up Russians backside.

If anybody in Europe, Serbs are independent.

Only time when Serbians entered in open military confrontation with Russians was when they sided with Poles. So, Russia learned to tolerate good Polish-Serbian relations and our specific interests.

But, Serbians never sided with non-Slavs against Russians. Actually, there are no historical records about any Serbian alliance with non-Slavs against other Slavs, no matter mutual Slavic misunderstandings.

In any case, its glad to me that Serbian President and PM congratulate to new Polish president, in hope in even better relations between our two Slavic and European countries

"The relations between Serbia and Poland are based on the traditional closeness and friendship between our nations and rest on the solid foundations of mutual understanding and respect. Serbia sees a close friend in Poland and highly appreciates your country's support for our efforts to become a part of the European Union," the president said.

"On the occasion of your election to the post of the president of the Republic of Poland, on behalf of the Serbian citizens and on my own behalf, I extend to you sincere congratulations and best wishes for success in the responsible post (...)"

Dougpol here :)

Nobody suggests that EU grants are "free money". There is no such thing - which PIS for one fail to understand.

Poland will soon be a net contributor to the EU and will be starting the payback.

am supporter of unity of european countries

i am rather for coexistence.

Ah, i almost forgot to mention message of Serbian PM to new Polish president Pan brat Duda

here it is:

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic sent on Monday a letter of congratulations to Andrzej Duda "voicing confidence that cooperation between the two countries will be improved in all fields of mutual interest."

"On the occasion of your appointment to the position of President of the Republic of Poland, I send you my most sincere congratulations and the best wishes for a successful performance of that responsible duty," Vucic said in the letter.

"I am deeply convinced that, with your personal contribution, the close friendly relations and a good bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Poland will be improved in all areas of common interest" (...)

Doug, what you said about all presidents having to resign partisan membership in post 406 was something I didnt know and most Poles I have talked to, didn't either !

Just my tuppence or grosz worth which I hope's reassuring ... business enquiries (not orders yet but enquiries) have picked up by something like 20% since the weekend compared to a month or so ago when it was looking pretty quiet and I was wondering about clipping coupons ;)

Not reassured eh?

Every single person working for themselves that I speak to in Pomorskie - and that is at leat 40 different faces since Sunday - some bigger than others - are all absolutely appalled at the turn of events.

And not only for themselves either. But the power to attract business if PIS win in October.

This is serious stuff and as Komorowski said, you have to think what kind of country you want.

It's not my country but I have made a contribution over the last 23 years and I would not tolerate another PIS socialistgovernment at this moment in time. I would take my tax payments and know-how to another more tolerant country. Research starts definitely now to be forearmed..

Can't think what sort of businesses they're in, cause things are if anything busier here at least with inquries if not sales.

PiS aren't socialists, you're reading propaganda stuff and believing it. They'll also sort out the drop off in law and order I hope, things deteriorating where I am for some time, plain to see (PO city).

As European, as a Slavic man, i now feel much safer knowing that is in Poland elected patriotic president such is Andrzej Duda. Strong Poland and her balanced politics would for sure act as stabilizing factor on European political scene, on the contrary to aggressive politics promoted by western European powers led by USA.

Were you here in 2005?

Socialists - interfering and legislating businesses.

Ask any businessman. Any at all in fact.

circles of dog walkers

Yes I was and PiS is nothing comparing to PO in terms of destroying Polish economy.

PiS is nothing comparing to PO in terms of destroying Polish economy.

But that is patently not true Wulkan. One party is liberal-conservative pro-Europe and the other has always been anti-corporation and employing the agenda of xenophobia, maybe more through words than deeds, but generally anybody who has ever sold even an apple will tell you that PIS is bad for business.

They are definitely bad for me as I import dry goods and I could spell out the ways in which a PIS administration makes things more complicated, but I will leave that to the brains.
