A group of Arab Spring activists observing Polish parliamentary elections are championing the spirit of civil society, and say such ballots back home will be milestones in turning hard-won freedoms into lasting democracy.

Fifteen activists and election officials - five each from Tunisia, Egypt and Libya - met Friday with deputy foreign ministers Krzysztof Stanowski and Jerzy Pomianowski. They also held a meeting with the members and judges of the State Electoral Commission.

I avidly watch George Galloway's various broadcasts so I know what you mean. However, I'd imagine that many Arabs are barely aware of Poland's democratic traditions. The interim establishment in Libya needs a model but to what extent will they 'borrow' from Poland's set-up? What do you feel the Arab Spring fellows will take from the observation process?

It is no wonder that they have chosen Poland as a model country. Poland has a long tradition of democracy. Poland has established the second, after the US, constitution in history and is the only country who successfully achieved freedom from communist regime , the other countries were just followers and were secured by Polish achievements, that Soviets would not intervene as they didn’t in the biggest soviet bloc country . So our nation was really brave to stand against soviet system and did it with success. So, all the Arabic nations should follow Poland in their way to democracy .

The functioning of democratic State-from general election through Parliament to local and regional authorities; creation of the Constitution, the Organization of the elections-are matters the revolutionaries from Tunisia and Egypt will learn during a meeting in Warsaw. This is of course a gigantic task, which cannot be achieved within one Conference and one brief meeting .

Polish officials talked about the essence of these changes, what was the amendment of the Constitution in 1989 and later in 1992. Finally, how we are working on a new Constitution, said one official .
An important element of these changes was the reform of local municipal government, which has settled in the sense of ownership and finances our local communities-said Polish official
The introduction of democracy in the countries directly neighbouring the European Union means, above all stabilization of relationships and interests. An Egyptian activist Walid Rashid stressed that the visit in Poland is mainly to gather information about the functioning of democracy.

I wonder the day when USA and the North Atlantic Terrorist Organization will SIMMER THE HELL DOWN.
This is a large reason those people do not like us and with good reason.

The Libyans will travel to Radom south of the capital, while the Egyptians journey to Plock, in central Poland, to observe voting and the counting of ballots. Looks like a tie up between Poland and Arab countries.

Tunisia isn't going to turn into Sweden overnight. To expect changes in the Arab world to happen in a way that isn't Arab is just plain naive.

more precise would be: never

really? what makes you say that?
we can see in egypt another great example how the "arab spring" looks like...democracy, for what many even gave their lives, nowhere and will never be. one "kalif" left and the next one will come or is already there.

More likely that Sweden will turn into Tunisia given the amount of Muslim immigration.
