If that is true it's really astounding!

...
Now, suddenly, he is saying: "The Polish-Polish war must end," and that a "good relationship" with its neighbors is paramount. It's nothing less than a catharsis.

...
He also reaches out to the Germans: "Our relations are 1,000 years old. We must think about the future."

huh? Who are you and what have you done with our Kaczynski???

Take whatever comes out of his mouth with a pinch of salt. In spite of what happened. Him and his brother were disliked in Poland for many many reasons. In years to come, Poles will think why the hell did we bury that guy in the Castle...

But...what if he really changed? The death of a close one can have that effect....

It still wont change anything. It can have an affect on how he acts in public, but his bro wouldn't have changed, so why should he?

I wouldnt wish it upon anyone, but his brothers death will probably end up as a good thing for Poland. The old school thinking of these guys deserved a place in the past, but not modern day or future Poland.

Who are you and what have you done with our Kaczynski???

If I was a betting man I would bet that Kaczynski is sincere with his transformation. Its unbearable the suffering someone goes through when he loses a close relative especially a twin. God only knows how profoundly deeply this affects somebody.

They say the only way a person could handle such overwhelming grief (that never goes away) is to try to find some way of using it in a positive way. Like that one guy (I forget his name) on TV who spends the rest of his life going after criminals after his daughter was killed by a thug. He is also the first to show support for other crime victims when he's on TV.

That may not be a perfect parrallel for Kacyzinski, but I think Kaczynski is trying to be more open-minded and having a re-think of things in light of his brother's tragedy.

They say hardline people generally aren't phonies because of the strong positions they take in the first place. Usually its wishy washy moderates that tend to be phonies.

According to this article even Kaczynski's critics don't think he is a phony.

He kind of reminds me of Pat Buchanan of the US. People can hate him and think he's extreme and hardline in his views, but one thing he is NOT... is a phony.

Young people are turning away from Komorowski simply because he committs so many gaffs every time he speaks. He's our George Bush.

The ones who are not amused when Bronek "Error" Komorowski declares that "water accumulates, but then goes away."

Luckily the majority of young people are still sane.

Not many of them I guess hence changing "young people" to "some young people" would have been a good idea.

It's the usual PiS supporter line - if you don't agree with them, you don't exist.

It looks like the PSL and SLD will both support Komorowski in the 2nd round, so that's bye bye to Kaczynski's chances.

Yeah I've noticed that, on the other hand all of our views are biased by the circle of people we surround ourselves with. All of my friends are not going to vote on Kaczynski, hence I'm building my thoughts around the idea that of many young people not voting on him.. ; o maybe I'm wrong..

Exactly the same here - people are voting for who they want in the 1st round, but equally so, they have a very strong "anyone but Kaczynski" line for the 2nd round. But to be fair - I live in Poznan, one of the strongest PO locations!
