Interesting article

"Never trust Russian authorities," Andrei Sakharov once advised his friend Bronislaw Geremek, the renowned Polish scholar and pro-democracy leader.

That's more like it, David, looking to future ties. For me, Geremek said it all in the first part of the article. However, I'd only change his wording from always to often. You can't always trust anybody in this world!!

Especially so-called family in international relations. Just look at Russia/Serbian relations. Russia help them only when they feel like it. Tusk and Komorowski will really look to edge closer on different fronts.

Exactly! Look how they treated Serbia in the gas crisis. Many Serbs froze due to their gas being cut.

As for Poland, they know the importance of gas and will work on self sufficiency.

Here's to hoping! I just hope that naivete doesn't overtake reason here. My Polish friend was commenting on it this morning, at the naivety of his own people. He was really pouring it on, worried like Pi³sudski was of where his country is going.

However, I urge caution with Russia. Yes, an olive branch has been given but Tusk needs to use his head. I'm not convinced that Russia has been open in their investigation over Smolensk though I am prepared to give leeway.

What's a conspiracy theory, David? Enlighten me! Is it one that many have worked extensively on at the expense of the lazy official line? I don't know.

Do we always have to help them?
