He might have been a pioneer but having no influence outside the communist block wouldn't have made him prominent.

Quite frankly the contribution to the computer world from communist countries is zero.

well... 16bit computer in early 70' was a something really new... it offered multithreading, memory paging etc- something that is a standard today, but those day- it was a light years ahead of other computers (including the most popular /today/ ibm-pc.
so, in short: there is absolutly no reason to be ashamed of it :)

Oh my... Peterweg, go back to school... You could start with this:

Fact is, Poland didn't contribute much in the begining of computer science era. Bet certainly it is not zero. Beside, it is not polite to spoil thread dedicated to a man who is important for Polish science.
