Recently in CR I noticed a high degree of functionality in almost every aspect(transportation, services, etc.Everything seemed to run smoothly and Czechs really understood what one needs and always do sth in front to predict and satisfy the need. They are extremely efficient. Is this due to germanic influence on czech lands?Or due to different neighbours, historic traditions?
How do they manage to be so highly operational?Maybe Hitler was right calling Czechs the most dangerous Slavs? They seem to take from their neighbours everything worthy they have to offer.Even the houses they built during communism are vastly superior than polish ones built in the same period.

It is due to them having rolled over in the second war, and the fact that no fighting took place on Czech land in the first. So the 'top' element in their society survived relatively undisturbed. That is why they could entertain and flirt with such options like communism, where for a time being it was a genuinely popular ideology.

milky:
They have the great roads of central and western europe unlike most of Poland. They have the german influence(well located in Europe)

Yes, Poland is also very familiar with German influence, 6 million dead, industry destroyed and children stolen.

Torq:
Apparently, their tactics was better.

Well they do say its is better to die fighting than live on your knees.

Poles have hate/love relationship with Poland. For the most part they have strong cultural identity with their families but overall, hate Polish society. Poland is a divided country and has been for a long time.

Not to forget the millions of Poles immigrating to Germany over the centuries...searching for a better life.

Well...besides a handful of uprising the whole Eastern bloc DID live on it's knees for 60 years.
What makes you think Poles are different to everybody else?

It's not exactly that Free West Block hurried to engage Soviet Union militarily, either. So is that making them cowards too?

It's stupid to single out a people from the Eastern Bloc for cowardness....we were all in the same boat.

Yeah...they would had been scientific masterminds back then...you didn't invent the gun powder or the bullets either...tsk tsk...

Why are Czechs more effective than Poles?
It all depends on the location: the closer to Russia a country is, the more fukced up its history, economy, social life and standards are, unless you live on an island discovered for the first time in 1850s by the Western world or separated by a formidable thousand kilometers wall. As far as I know from geography Poland is not an island and mountains are in the wrong place. Czechs were partially saved by the distance. And they too were invaded by Soviet bastards in 1968.

You were willfully misunderstanding there but I'm nice so I didn't point that out. He was talking about beginning of WW2, you about commie times.

No, Poles didn't devastate Russia on that expedition to the point Russia had still to recuperate 60 years later.

I hate when ppl are adding stuff after I answered already.
With Ukrainians we are even. It's not our fault they can't decide whether they want to belong to Western or Eastern civilization. To this day.

Come now BB I was just using an example by way of contrast, you know that i really like Germany. Goodness knows you are trying your best, spreading your milk of human kindness to Poland through EU funds, like you said providing jobs, saving the EU project.

You know people want forget, 20 years from now they will say, yes it was that iron Frau who bailed out Greece and saved the EU project.

I seriously respect her, I cannot think of another EU leader with so much integrity, she comes across as so honest, she must be in the wrong line of business:)

I also remember when they were negotiating the EU budget a few years back and there was a deadlock, so she stepped up to the mark and for the good of the EU she spent a few extra marks.

You know I know a few Germans, and without exception they are a decent, friendly people who make great food and are very knowledgeable. I have the older generation in mind since i don't know any young ones, so I can't judge.

You just have to deal with the douches that live in the neighborhood, much like Vinohrady.

Czechoslovakia was far more industrialised than Poland at an earlier date. Industry produces money, money allows a better infrastructure, infrastructure makes a country more efficient. Poland was more agricultural and has a history of being occupied and destroyed by invaders. Czechoslovakia also inherited the wealthy of the Austro- Hungarian empire, given them a advantage in infrastructure and industry.

Britain, in contrast has not been invaded for nearly a thousand years, had access to the worlds oceans and natural resources (a legal imperative - slavery was banned) to industrialise.

In summary, Czechoslovakia was lucky.

And Poland was lucky as well since it inherited the wealth of german empire(which was more advanced than the austrohungarian empire) and this of austrohungarian empire(in its teritorry) as well. Why Hungary which also inherited the Austrohungarian empire is now in shutters? There must be some reason and the difference in mentality is obvious to anyone visiting these countries.

Oh, really?

Apparently you missed my post, Southern...

... you're forgetting that Poles and Czechs are close Slavic cousins (culturally and linguistically)
and people in Poland very often have friendship and family ties with Czech Republic,
so nobody will buy your fairy tales about "more Germanic influence", "better effectiveness"
etc. etc.

Czechs

Serbs see Czechs as Boii and Czechs see Serbs as Skordisci. We are both (Czechs and Serbs) aware that Celts were Slavs.

why are the Czechs more effective than the Poles.... are you kidding me.... Why is it that the Poles invaded UK after the european union entry & the number of czechs is small in comparison............. why ... bcause the Poles are willing to get off there arse & make something given the opportunity... perhaps the Czechs think the are more refind or sophisticated .... which is bulsh* I lived in Prague & ran a restaurant there, I know alittle bit about Czechs & they are small in comparison to the Poles... by the way Im Scottish & hold no natural bias to either country only from what I have seen.... the comment is racisist ...& the guy is a misinformed muppet......

Yeah but have you lived in Poland? Getting sth things done here is awkward when you have old hags from communist times being far from helpful. However, there is hope and I have been lucky enough to come across helpful souls, whether it be in a hospital, insurance agency or tax office. Still, the attitude and efficiency has to improve. There is potential but they have to give the heave-ho to old biddies that are just taking up space. I can imagine the Czechs being more effective than such types though don't tar all administrative workers with the same brush. Poland just needs to offload excess baggage and get sharper people in those jobs.

I wouldn't say 'most'. Besides, modern Greeks have as much in common with ancient Greeks
as modern day Italians have with ancient Romans :)

Why are Czechs more effective than Poles and Poland?

they had real intelectual and patriot type named Vaclav Havel... and we did not.

Seanus:
There is a Germanic influence evident in Prague which might account for their efficiency.

and u dont see germanic influence in polish cities?
...that's weird Sean (since u live in Silesia...)

So the fact that hundreds of thousands of Poles had to emigrate shows that they are more effective?I thik it shows the opposite.

They are just taking a small piece of what the Uk owes Poland after they sold them out in Yalta and forced the poles to live under the communists.

Eloquence wherever you write sth. Entertaining on child level, but as I said already. No improvement. Just babbling, no arguments and gay(quoting yourself).

By the way, classic grilled sausage is my favorite. Did you buy Groenemeyers LP with the song about Currywurst? Its great.
