Is it true that Damien Perquis a French football player of Polish ancestry who was granted Polish citizenship to play in Poland was called " a French S***** who should not wear the Polish Eagle (!?)" by Jan Tomaszewski a former Polish football player and PIS Politician ?

If so, this old PIS bigot is giving Poland a really bad image for the world of Sport and in general especially before 2012 !

Damien Perquis was personally spat on by Jarosław Kaczyński - this is the sort of politics PiS is about

(ok I have no idea what mr Tomaszewski said about Perquis - neither did I know that Tomaszewski is a member of PiS)

Nobody pays attention to what Tomaszewski says and nobody knows he is PIS member.
Anyway, I don't like this sort of propaganda on Polish forums (read by foreigners) so I will vote PIS just to **** you off.

ok I'll save you the effort - it wasn't spit actually - Kaczyński just misfortunatetly sneezed on Mr Perquis's black suit while the two were being introduced to each other - that's the sort of PR disaster Kaczyński sadly is ;)

No he cannot, immigrants fortunately aren't allowed to vote in the parliamentary elections. But it's good to know who he would vote for if he could - this way I know exactly which party I should not vote for.

They are if they've been granted Polish citizenship.

Sadly, no. It's a shame, because I would probably put far more effort into voting than the vast majority of people who just vote blindly for one party without thinking.

Still - I can vote at European and local levels. In the runoff in Poznan between Grobelny and the PO nobody, I spoiled my vote ;)

But it's good to know who he would vote for if he could - this way I know exactly which party I should not vote for.

It's exactly that kind of stupid logic that results in PO dominating Polish politics. Negativity just doesn't win elections - never did, never will.

I read yesterday in the newspaper that Poland ranks second lowest out of 30 countries (EU, USA, etc.) in immigrant rights. As an example, they brought out that in Poland a foreigner cannot be a candidate in any elections, nor can he vote in parliamentary elections. Only EU citizens, resident for more than three years in Poland, can vote in administrative elections.

Utter nonsense.

EU citizens can vote in municipal and European elections from the minute they obtain the EU residence certificate, which takes about a month at the most to get. They need to go to the Urzad Miasta each time to get a paper which confirms their vote - but that's a five second job.

The rules are harmonised throughout the EU in this respect - those with valid residency can vote in these elections. Incidentally, they can also be candidates if they chose to be. It would be rather insane if a European Union citizen couldn't stand for European election!

As it stands, I can't think of anything in Poland that EU citizens cannot do that Poles can do, except voting. Heck, there's even an Nigerian posel!

Exept when Gazeta Wyborzca and main Polish French and German newspapers write about this...

Tomaszewski also insulted another player E Polanski who is Polish but raised in Germany.

Anyway the PIS will not win the elections in my opinion but the damages on Poland ' s image are big.

actually wouldn't you prefer people around you spoke their minds instead of going around the business of creating an 'image'

btw if the Western media love to suddenly quote Jan Tomaszewski who is nobody for them (ever heard any Western media quote Tomaszewski on anything before???) just happens to currently support PiS, isn't it that you are actually witnessing an effort (more or less conscious) on creating a negative image of the whole political movement (not a first incidence and most probably not the last one)

No sorry i would have done without this Polish guy on the political scene insulting someone who got Polish citizenship just because he had Polish roots and was not born in Poland and who did the same against someone who was born in Poland and raised in Germany.

I don't prefer at all people like that to speak their minds and express their hate and hostility for no reason, i would prefer them to shut up . They are an embarrassment for Poland. As for Kaczyński spitting on this football player he is just lucky he did not do that with Zinedine Zidane!

Damien Perquis is launching a legal action against Jan Tomaswewski , hopefully Tomaswewski should pay a huge fine and make a public apology for his kind statements in the Sports world and before the cup in Poland.

"How can he pull on the White Eagle shirt, the one in which we true Poles won honours. A piece of French trash, of footballing trash, who never made his mark at home," Tomaszewski said."

What would this Jan Tomaszewski think if Polish Football players in France in Germany etc were publicly insulted this way and called "piece of Polish trash?"

Grzegorz you can become Tomaszewski 's defense lawyer in court against Perquis and the Polish club that hired him but it is doubtful you ll win Tomaswewski's case...

He will most probably have to apologize... which doesn't change a fact that he's right... I think you don't know much about Polish football and thus don't understand what he ment.

There is a wider issue, about language used in football and treatment of players (Posh Spice takes it up the whatever, throwing bananas, sectarianism etc) that means the issue must be dealt with before he is seen to be condoning the use of such language by fans.

What is your take on buying foreign players and fast-track citizenship? SHould a national squad be precidely that -- a time compsoed of nationals? Hasn't sport in general degenerated into yet another mega-comemrcial venture with little of the 'noble rivalry' left? It's all about pricey transfers, broadcasting rights, people like Małysz plastered from head to to with comercial logos, 'Made in China' team-gadgets (mugs, T-shirts, mascots, souvenirs, [I couldn't believe it when I learnt there were things like Glasgow Rangers jam], etc.) not to mention stadium hooliganism, match-fixing and underworld involvement in sport.

It has indeed! Football stopped being a sport a few years ago and has become a big business for players, clubs, the FA and FIFA. Until there is a cap put on the ridiculous money involved in the game, most stadiums in the future will have empty seats, as fans won't be able afford to pay the inflated prices for tickets every season.
