My daughter's class tutor (home room teacher) talked in class today about the feminists' march in Warsaw and how they were fighting for women's rights etc etc. My daughter then proudly said that, fine, great advances were made in the past but that recently the only advance made was in England, where they successfully achieved a rise in the women's retirement age. 2 cheers for the femorons!

Abortion has been banned in Poland for years. Poland (along with Malta & Ireland) are the only countries in the developed world to still ban abortion. It's shameful.

Agreed, but at least in the EU someone can just drive to a clinic across the border without even showing a passport. I read a while back that 20% of abortions in the UK are for Polish citizens - seems a lot, but plausible given that its a country of 40 million, many of who have legitimate reasons to visit a friend or relative in the UK without attracting gossip about going there.

The term feminist does not mean "Women are better, men are pathetic scum of the earth". It means that women are equal to men and that we should have equal rights and fair treatment. It's been hijacked by people who don't read and learn in order to actually know what they are talking about.

That being said, I'm a feminist, my entire family (on my side, not my in-laws) is 100% feminist and I know many men who are feminists. They want women to have equal pay for equal work, equal rights, fair treatment, equal representation in government, etc. in order for there to be real balance in the world.

If a woman spews hatred toward men, she is misguided and lacks eloquence. She is also more than likely to be frustrated with living in a patriarchal society which values her as a commodity for men. But instead of demanding equal rights and fair treatment, she spews hatred because she doesn't know better. It's inexcusable. It also trivializes and undermines what she and others want.

yes, there is one thing that is not OK with Poland - it's the condemnation of women who get pregnant from casual sex out of wedlock - there is no point and no need for such a condemnation - it only heavily adds to the pressures that makes women consider abortion - so quite a counter-constructive measure for a presumably christian society

No its not. I've lived in Poland for many months and abortion is strictly banned there. The only exception is in cases of rape, incest, or physical harm to the mother's health.

I also believe that a proposal to ban abortion completely was recently passed. That means no abortion even in case of rape or danger to the mothers health. A total ban that is.

Again you're wrong. The Polish government came very close to banning all abortions in 2011 (with no exceptions).
