Yes. A time of year to be be a bit kinder to the beggars round the station.

It would be caring to take a few winos home to warm up. I know you care.

I am looking forward to some real freezing weather this week end. On weather.com and bbc weather they are predicting only -18C to -20C but on Yahoo they are saying -34C! I hope the latter is right and I can beat my personal best (-29C in winter 2005, the year that I arrived in Poland)!

There is enough shelters but they have a rule - no alcohol.
So, some take a chances, why should I care? It is free will in action!

acually not just 42, but over 200 deaths in Poland because of the cold weather:

news.ie.msn.com/world/article.aspx?cp-documentid=151884288

Polish rail travellers faced lengthy delays because of freezing tracks and power lines. In parts of Poland, thousands of households have suffered power cuts.

Power shortages have also pushed up gas consumption, leaving Poland's reserves half depleted. A Polish state agency said on Monday half of the damage had now been fixed.

It was just on the news that the council in Warsaw have got coke-fired braziers ready in case they need to use them in bus or tram stops, for people to stand round.

I've only seen this once, and it was a good idea, but due to the cost of setting them up in the stops and keeping them stoked with coke they've decided not to use them unless the daytime temperature really falls.

Instead, they're making express buses stop at intermediate stops and laying a few extra buses and trams on, so people don't have to wait that long.

I have heard that too.
The dog survived 5 days/5 nights of freezing weather. Got on the ice somewhere around Grudziac and was rescued on the the Gdanska Bay on Baltic sea. He was adopted by the rescue ship grew and renamed Baltic ( the same as the rescue ship).

With 11 deaths in Poland in recent days, the country's winter death toll has passed 202. The weather forecast for Poland is for temperatures to plunge further below zero in the next few days.

Looks as though the big freeze is over, another winter survived in Poland.

I witnessed a huge amount of snow fall off my roof yesterday, it was a good job the dog wasnt having a pee at the time it would have probably killed him or me. Forget about avalanches i get it at my back door.

Anyway the thaw is on, bring on the sun. Never thought i'd say ive had enough of snow.
