In Duży Format there is an intresting article about an elder dweller who protests with few other elder dwellers against building in front of her windows the 54-storey sky scraper localized on Złota 44 st. Not only inhabitants of the adjacent block of flats had objections against the investment. Also Złote Tarasy, Holliday Inn, Warsaw Tower were against it but finally they came to an agreement. According to Duży Format (a reporter magazine added each week to Gazeta Wyborcza) other occupants whose widnows weren't facing the constrution work agreed for some compenstion (of few thousand PLNs) but those whose flats are to be the most disadvantaged by the new investition couldn't agree for such conditions. The investment was seized and the developer is accusing the elder inhabitants of very nasty things (that they are trying to blackmail the developer - like Duży Format says. There was even a German tv who came to make a reportage about seized investition accusing that the case has something to do with... Polish antisemitism!
The elder women said that reporters of the German tv wanted to make an interview with her. She agreed and let them to her home as she believed in good intentions of the reporters. They asked her to show the balcony view and unfortunately there was some antisemitic graffiti on the wall of some other building. She was shock to find out later that reporter, obviously inspired by the graffiti, made in the coverage an insunuation that the reason of the protest is widely spreaded in Poland antisemitism (the architect is world famous Daniel Libeskind who is of Jewish descent). The women says that of course she knew that Libeskind is of Jewish roots but she is not against Jews, her family had many Jewish friends and she is disgusted by those baseless accusations.

I had to say I'm shocked either. I haven't known the case until now, so maybe I don't know all facts. But tell me is this kind of low journalism (assuming that the woman is not lying) a norm in Germany?

Additionally Libeskind in person when asked by other German tv if he thinks the prostest has something to with Polish antisemitism answered he doesn't see any connection with this case.

ok so change the title if you can btw because I see I made few grammar mistakes ;) I wanted to write: "German tv made an antisemite of an elder womAn who protests against Libeskind's tower"

Of course the article is lot longer and the antisemitism accusations are only the one of the many things mentioned in this article. Generally the article is an portrait of that elder woman who protests and how few pentioners hold on a mlns-worth investition (the clash between ordinary people and big money business)

Forget Libeskind: Jews or Israelis probably financing he development project, and the woman in question probably ask for too much money/compensation.

Or perhaps it's more about existing issues surrounding high-rise development in that part of Warsaw. If you lived in Warsaw rather than thousands of miles away you'd probably know about it already.

The project ran out of money anyway.

Then issue is a red herring...I'm sure people in historic parts of the city wish to maintain some sense of history, as far as architecture...Same problem in US, only developers usually pony up enough to get what they want...Why would so called 'anti-semitism' even be brought up?

What about the least historic part of the city centre, which we're talking about in this thread?

Yeah the center is so to say full of sky-scrapers/towers? Heard it before that soem other complained about not having too much light... I remember one tower has an huge opening through it to give light. I guess there wasn't enough funds to do that
