Poland will command the group, providing the core combat troops and a mechanised battalion, a high-ranking French military official said in Brussels.

Now, who would this group battle?...Libya?...Perhaps the Serbs?...Or maybe those nasty Greeks' is 'they doeth protest too much'?

Polish top brass consents to it, Crow. Sarkozy and Merkel are pretty convincing people. Poland should be careful with such warmongers.

Merkel is spending her summer holidays in Poland. She feels great in the company of Polish gentleman.

I hope the discussion won't be about battlegroups ;) ;) She's in Hel? I'm sure Crowie will have a comment or two about that.

Crazy talk! Germany and France are the "big boys" in the neighborhood. Poland is doing exactly what she needs to be doing. German support is vital - pure ans simple. And the fact that Angela's mom was born in Gdansk is just gravy :) Hopefully, the good relations will continue because Poland needs their support - pure and simple.

Support against what threats, may I ask? Flying missiles from Iran? ;) ;) Oh, right, that's such a pressing concern, of course ;) It takes around 3 years to build a protective shield so where's the urgency? Oh, Łukaszenko will invade Poland? ;) Come on now, what support?

Very naive attempt from Poland.

Poland is not a small country. Poles should trust themselves.

Rock, you have to understand the Poles need for feeling safe. NATO was the false prophet that came along to offer it but Poles are looking for certainty through other alliances.

But they don't.

I certainly wouldn't trust many false patriots to defend Poland in a time of need.

Informal Defence Policy Directors’ Meeting, Sopot, Poland, 18-19 July

Sopot has been busy so far with various EU meetings.

(...)
During the meeting issues concerning the EU operational involvement in the Balkans (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and in Somalia will be discussed.

The directors will also discuss directions of development of defence capabilities, especially including initiative within the Weimar Triangle and “pooling and sharing” mechanism.

Other subjects of the meeting will be the EU relations with international partners within CSDP*: with other organisations (NATO, UN, AU) and, what is a new element in CSDP – relations with eastern partners of the EU.

The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), formerly known as the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP), is a major element of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union (EU) and is the domain of EU policy covering defence and military aspects.
