Jews of Polish descent - COME BACK HOME!

Every passing day, I wish that all of the rich, successful, brilliant Jewish people of polish descent, living all around the world, would one day come back and make Poland their home again.

My babcia often told me about how wonderful and vibrant it was for her family (she had 9 siblings) living on a farm in a small town inhabited primarily by Jews (in Podlasie region). The music, arts, poetry, prayers.. she remembered it all. She was 13 and remembered watching all of her close jewish friends and neighbors leaving their homes with all their belongings. When I last visited her town in '99, her house seemed to be the only inhabited house there. Her street was awfully deserted.

But anyway..

So, honestly now, I can't be the only Pole who feels this way.

ever heard of that 'Wasze ulice nasze kamienice' or of that : after the hyperinflation in Germany close to 80 per cent of real estate was in Jewish hands?

if they were moved to a ghetto in some bigger place i think they were initially allowed to take much of their belongings

Oh, sure, I'd love for Poland to be filled with rich, successful and brilliant minorities ;)

But what reason would rich, successful and brilliant people have for moving to Poland when so many Poles are trying to move somewhere else? Unless you think that Jews will come and fix all our problems.

But as a not so rich, yet brilliant and moderately successful, jewish person of polish descent I'd have to pass on that offer.

Why?

The climate's better, the country's bigger and, let's be honest, nicer. There aren't all those
angry Arabs around, trying to push you back to the sea and generally Poland seems to be
a more friendly place to live in than Israel, so - come back (even if you're only moderately
successful ;)).

This is not the way to deal with your racial inferiority complex.
I would very much like to say that Jews place is in Palestine, but why would I condemn Palestinian people to suffering?

We all descend from Africa so should we go back there? Israel is the Promised Land and Poland is the Holey Land ;)

Nationalism...Jews find it their honor to stay in Israel which is the home of their culture and holy happenings that others have tried to erase numerous times throughout history. Israel has a lot of pros to it as well...

It is also the home of other cultures and that's the problem. Israel was made a state through a sellout by a British moron. You can't form states on that basis though he somehow managed to gain legitimacy through the UN. Jews chose to be nomadic and they can't just displace others like they do. Do Poles want to be displaced?

People of Polish descent who don't live in Poland, but live in America, just don't realize how much things have changed in regard to the Jewish questions in Poland. Obviously, there are still aniti-semites in Poland, but they seem to be a dying species. I even have an anti-semite in my own family on whom the pre-1939 anti-semitism was passed on by his parents of small village. Yet he hasn't managed to pass it further onto his offspring; his now grown-up daughters just start laughing at him whenever he starts to play his anti-semitic tunes at a family meeting. There has been generation change in this respect in Poland, while there might have been none among the Polish population in the US.

The reasearch studies carried out on the subject in Poland [one was published in "Rzeczpospolita" about two years ago] which the Polish-American probably don't read, corroborate the above trend of change in the attitudes of people.

The pre-1939 anti-semitism in Poland was best exemplified in citing the above sentence whom I also know from my grand-father. Even if he lived in a small village inhabited by a large number of Jewish people, he was never anti-semitic. He had friends among the Jews of the village and he even learned Yiddish until the rabbi of the village got the news of it and told the friends of my grand-dad to discontinue the practice.

Jews stereotyping Eastern Europeans as primitive fools is not rare at all. Anne Applebaum called the movie extremely offensive (towards Eastern Europeans). IMO it tells more about Cohen than about people he tried to make fun of.

Stereotypes are just that. Likewise, intelligent people shouldn't feel the need to typecast 'Jews' as there is a fair bit of variation between them. Take people as you find them.

Yeah, she is a bit of a Neo-con, and her lobbying for Roman Polanski, in her columns, is also somewhat distasteful.

anti-semitism is dying because most Poles in Poland don't see Jews in action now contrary to Poles living in America - or they actually don't think Adam Michnikis firstly Jewish in his mind (or even more so Helena Łuczywo who was more in charge in GW than Michnik) and that this might explain some of his attitudes (that leave an outprint on the policy of Gazeta Wyborcza) ( btw taking the Gazeta Wyborcza over by Michnik was nothing short of a scam - and as it was originally Polonia funded Polish Americans have some strong outlooks on Michnik

I don't think she would be any sort of ambassador for Poland then. Poles need pragmatic leadership that sets out to cater for the majority of Poles through ascertaining the Polish interest. Those with such Jewish leanings are not inclined to be impartial. I'm not saying that simply because she is Jewish as most people favour their own, that's just human nature.

Just out of interest, what areas does she cover in her journalism?

She covers world affairs. She was one of the idiots in favor of the Iraq war. I think she currently writes for the online magazine Slate.

World affairs?? That's rather broad, isn't it? Slate, that rings a bell. She should have run through the streets of Iraq with a t-shirt reading 'I supported your death'. Sad, sad person!

Anything connected with Poland or is Poland not worthy of comment in her eyes?

I am sure she has written about Poland but I don't read her regularly since I stopped reading Slate some time ago.

I think she is the best thing that we could hope for from American Jews. She came out very likeable in an interview in Polish when her husband was a candidate for the spot in presidential campaign. Shortly after she did a piece on how US should attack Iran to defend Israel which made many people concerned, but it doesn't seem like she has any real influence on the direction of Polish foreign policy.

Ah, ok. Well, who else? Shimon Peres? Would you really want that creep here? He was born in Poland but he has spent too much time in the Knesset to have any semblance of what being Polish means. What good would having him here do?
