Will Komorowski be Poland's worst ever president?

After such a pathetic campaign what does the future hold for Poland?

Our new president struggled to win despite:

Full media support
Wealth and power of PO government and Tusk
Massive poll leads (+11% at the start)

How will he fare abroad when he couldnt manage a decent victory in the easiest election in years?

Now the sale of Polands prized companies to foreigners will start in earnest- making the rich even wealthier and the poor to face rising bills from profiteering foreign companies.

The surrender to the EU also starts in earnest- first giving up the złoty for a currency that has just been bailed out and is fundamentally flawed.

A great country slowly being ruined.

First, campaigning and governing are two separate skills. You can be good at one without being good at the other.

That said, I'm glad BK won but I don't honestly expect much from him.

But then the Polish presidency isn't such an important post so it's hard to screw it up too much. I do think he'll be slightly less likely to engage in pointless bickering over protocal so I guess that's something.

If people get that upset over what PO does then they can force early elections, like last time.

Very good points there, Polityka. I've seen how expensive life is in countries with the EURO. Austria, for example. Ouch! What a farce! I didn't mind as I was on holiday but I couldn't live under such conditions normally and, more to the point, many poorer Poles certainly couldn't. I just hope BK issues a referendum, rather than a declaratory statement.

It's the foreign aspect that should be worrisome for Poles. Selling Poland will only incur the wrath of citizens but, the thing is, many won't even see it coming. I'd be monitoring the actions of Belka right about now. Liaising with that evil IMF is only gonna drag Poland down.

Polityka: ull media support Very bad points Polityka Wrong public TV belonged and still belongs to PIS... beside they had a strong support from catholic Church.. Komorowski won't be a great president but he won't be bad.

Sure public TV would be clever to support anybody but "The Smiller", but they see him win, so they don't want to **** him off since he would redistribute the easy jobs in that branch of the truth-aparat as he sees it fit.

It is hard to imagine a president who would be worse than the late LK. Therefore, the answer is 'no', BK will not be the worst ever president. Unlikely.

who exactly are you talking about? dumb masses voted on Kaczynski, and "K." is a pretty vague abrev when 2 candidates surnames begin that latter..

I mean the sanguine dumb masses who hope for a chance to make a better living, but don't realize, that "giving everybody a chance" is a neoliberal synonyme for the, considered as essential, sorting of the citizens in classes ranging from benetifical to free market economy to only exploitable by free market economy.

Its the old game of the dumb will go with it, as long as they see a chance to belong to the winning class.

If there is open competition, yes. But there will be no open competition. So the options are basically expensive tax payer funded service, or expensive private sector service.

SwP, that depends on the market in question. Some prices go up with competition as a good name can really raise the price. Others adopt various strategies in order to compete but prices can rise in so doing. With the inception of the EURO, they will. Just like Britain suits the pound, Poland suits the złoty. Komorowski is less concerned with the poorer people of Poland than JK.

No, he will not be. I am pretty sure that he is a good politician. Pathetic campaign? Well, it is just your point of view. For me, considering the fact how difficult the campaign and the situation in Poland was and, what's more, still is, I'd call it almost heroic.

Worse then Walensa with his "left leg" and faliure of decommunisation? I don't think so.
He'll just let Tusk do whatever he's bloody will and it is going to hurt us economically pretty deep but Poland will survive. Hitler and Stalin combined have not managed to destroy Poland :-)

Maybe even something good comes out of it? If PO goes too far, the outrage can facilitate creation of some real right wing party. Who knows?

You mean like PIS who happily made a coalition with Lepper and Giertych - one a dumb populist, the other one a convinced nazi? Presidents in general have to represent their country to the outside world and not behave like primitives. Her BK is a good choice I think. At least he knows Poland is a part of Europe

PiS was rather lefist, now didn it? It could be considered right wing only by Polish standards. I mean something like UPR, but without Korwin Mikke's dumbfucery. Part of Europe? Sure, always was. But EU is more and more commie so Poland should start to keep some distance. FRD, we survived crisis pretty much unscaved despite Tusk's best efforts.

It remains to be seen. For now it looks like he is going to kiss Tusk's arse daily. But mabe he'll develop some sort of backbone... Stranger things happend.

A guy in our Warsaw office reckson he'll be better, he's hopping for reforms in the health service and better wages will follow, both promises from the last K which failed to be met.

It was Tusk's minister Rostowski who cut spendings decreasing the effects of the crisis, it was a good decision opposite to what PIS proposed that could increase the country's budget deficit..

This document was the plan of anti-crisis work created by PIS basicaly most of it is just further spending:

Hopping is about right, Amathyst. He is a toad :) Still, Poles can't be disappointed if they don't have expectations. I've asked them for the criteria of what would constitute an effective President and, well, let's say 'vague' springs to mind.
