A wooden barrack at the former German Nazi concentration camp Majdanek in present-day eastern Poland was nearly completely destroyed by fire on Tuesday. The building was full of shoes of the victims of the forced labor camp.

http://blogs.wsj.com/new-europe/2010/08/10/part-of-nazi-camp-majdanek- goes-up-in-flames/

Brief history about Majdanek

Majdanek was a German Nazi concentration camp on the outskirts of Lublin, Poland, established during German Nazi occupation of Poland. The camp operated from October 1, 1941 until July 22, 1944, when it was captured nearly intact by the advancing Soviet Red Army. Although conceived as a forced labor camp and not as an extermination camp, over 79,000 people died there (59,000 of them Polish Jews) during the 34 months of its operation.

This is indeed a sad day for the relatives of the ones who died there.

Maybe someone should drive a large dumper truck through washington and destroy the war memorial? Why would anyone want to be reminded of such death?

Exactly, these things stand to remind us of the past and why it should never happen again.

It wasn't that long ago that you were complaining that there were too many Jewish threads on here.

Indeed, as long as you weren't being sarcastic.

Exactly. But I'm waiting to see how long it takes for Crow to turn this into a Serbian thread ;)

Well the thread i made was about jewish history, something that most poles should be proud of.

It was you guys who got it offtopic just cuz it was "to many jewish threads"

NorthMancPolak:
Indeed, as long as you weren't being sarcastic.

Seriously i think you got me on the wrong foot. I seriously like jews, and im very fascinated by the jewish heritage we got in Poland.

To bad the germans destroyed it...

Nothing wrong with Crows pro slavic statements. We should be proud to have a Slavic historian like crow here on this forum.

Er, no it wasn't...

Since everyone of you here seems to be so absest about jews, i thought maybe a History lesson would feed your fetishism about the jews.

:p

Ok maybe i was wrong with my topic line "juden". But i did it more to get attention to the thread.

NorthMancPolak:
:p

A history lesson about the jews in Poland, and not only about the sad part about what happend to them during the nazi occupation is something that many non poles needs to learn to understand why poles get's very offended about the ignorance in many history books about jews in Poland. Not so fun for the poles to hear same **** over over and over again how bad the nazis and some poles treated the jews bla bla bla.

What about all the history we share togheter?

NorthMancPolak:

Maybe so, but i find some of his threads and post for that matter very interresting.

this was not a memorial.. this was the place of death and torture.. a memorial would be a plaque or something..

and yet they do.. so, are these "memorials" really doing anything?

Does it matter?

Yes they make sure people remember and wont forget about the past.

plk123:

It is indeed the truth. But why only bring up the bad stuff and not some positive stuff about the jewish heritage in Poland?

Yea lets only talk about the negative stuff here on this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

plk123:

It's because of people like you that poles will keep on being narrow minded and live in their little "bubble".

my point is that even though we have plenty of memorials and people may seem to remember, ethnic cleansing and other mass murders still keep happening..

people like me? you have no clue

the point was that the jews don't and i am wondering why then the poles have to.. hmm

Sobieski is jarnowa, I believe.

Anyway, there are enough reminders of what happened but we should keep such places if we can. They serve a highly useful purpose.

No they are not as my wife's grandmother was in there for two years and she and others wish that it left as a memorial to the friends that they lost.

I think she knows a lot more about it than you will ever understand!
Now show a little respect for her and many like her who meet each year at Majdanek to remember their lost friends.

i agree with plk, as much as we should all remember what happened, it's a bit like keeping the demons of the past alive. it hurts just to look at these walls...

Ok then let us start removing all memorials shall we?
Let us start with the one in Katyn and then we can move on to the ones in Wawel.
Hmm, going by that logic is just plain simpleton isn't it !!!

Good to see Poles care so much about their history or should we customise it to suit it better to the sensitive’s' of today?
History is what it is, good or bad, and shouldn’t be changed in any form whatsoever and at every opportunity we should preserve it for our children and future generations of Pole’s.

memorials built to commemorate things that happened in hisotry are perfectly fine by me, according to this logic the americans should have left the ruins of WTC. my point is, man made memorials such as chapels or gardens would be a better place for people to grieve than the leftovers of a living nightmare where so many perished for nothing. concentration camps are places of pure evil and hatred and they should be destroyed, i don't think it's disrespectful towards people who died there at all, we will always remember them.

it's got nothing to do with jews, why is everybody over there still so paranoid about the jews? a lot of Poles died there too.

It has to do with the fact that the Cross freaks think that Jews are not Polish.
