The Nazis propagated some kind of state art....only that what pleased their eyes was allowed to be called art, the other stuff plainly forbidden.
Similiar to the Stalinist commies and most other totalitarian regimes.
Quite contrary to supporting the development of art and "caring" for art. Rather opressing and destroying....no art can thrive and flourish in such an atmosphere where artists go to jail for doing the "wrong" picture.

Politicians that have no better argument than the Nazi card aren't worth listening to.

So where should budget cuts be made? Does she suggest that maybe we should care less about roads than Nazi Germany, or maybe orphanages?

It's a stupid argument. Better argument would be, why are we giving them money in the first place? Private art seemed to have worked for a good couple of centuries, why change it?
