TFA:
Bitter quarrels and electioneering by Polish politicians at the inauguration of the Presidency in Strasbourg. - I want your government to respect freedom of expression, media freedom, and the rights of the opposition in practice - said Zbigniew Ziobro.

- So were you the minister of justice, when armed bands attacked people in Poland, and threw people in jail at 6am? Marek Siwiec retorted.

- I do not support the export of our country's embarrassment - summed Michal Kaminski. He received thunderous applause.

People: If Kamiński is urging restraint, this episode has GOT to be out of order.

Ziobro rants, Tusk listens

Thoughts?

I'm not sure I catch your drift here, alex. Could you elaborate, please!?

Sure. Ziobro hijacks the EU presidency, a forum for inter-state policy decisions and the place for his country to demonstrate a united purpose, turning it into a cheap points-scoring party-political debacle on matters of purely domestic relevance ahead of impending elections. Utterly inappropriate. Utterly small-minded. Utterly unconstructive. Simples.

That's Ziobro for you - his political tendency seem hell-bent on embarrassing Poland.

Good. I like your point of view.

But then PIS is a party made up by small-minded simpletons. In most EU countries during these six months the "normal" parties rally to put a cohesive and balanced image of their country to the rest of the EU.
Nobody can expect from "laptop" ziobro to follow that lead.
Anyway it is good to see that PIS is an auto-destructive mode. Too bad they also are smearing the image of Poland in the EU.

Thanks - it's especially wrong at a time when Poland is looking to re-invest the EU with a sense of purpose. Tusk's recent speech criticizing the current entropy within Europe was bracing, statesmanlike stuff, and vindicates the rotating presidency. I have been critical elsewhere here of the specific priorities Poland is looking to address (or rather, not the priorities per se, just the intractable urzędnik-language in which they were formulated) - but this speech hit home because the mood is defeatist of late, and minds need galvanising.

I still fear that all bets will be off if Greece defaults, but there's not much anyone can do in that case ...

And this came out just few days after the Kaczyński's statement that - although he considered Tusk's presidency program too small and too short sided - he would support Polish presidency.

No miracles possible..

If you want to keep Radio Marija as an electorate, way to go. I think rydzyk was making a fool of himself lately in the EP - on the invitation of PIS (and in the process conforming everybody else's view that Poland is a bigoted country).
By the way it seems that the archbishop of Gdańsk saw a nice business deal scuttled because local PO torpedoed the enlargement of his "garden" for peanuts? The breathtaking arrogance of the church here in Poland never stops.
