Russia said, the deployment of a U.S. Air Force unit on a Polish air base will harm security of other countries. "This step has to be viewed in the wake of the surfacing of NATO's plan to defend Poland and the Baltic states' aggression on the part of Russia," it said, referring to the WikiLeaks report that NATO mapped out plans in January to protect Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania against any possibly attack from Russia.

So what if a NATO member attacks another NATO member? LOL That has to be considered in the highly unlikely scenario that Russia joins NATO. Obama had no need to do that. He is just antagonising.

I seem to recall that a shield deal was signed, sealed and delivered but it was all a joke. It's Obama's turn although it wasn't as bad as the photo shoot where a plane flew close to where the WTC towers used to be. That was lunacy!

Obama is just a control freak and he needs to eat a rocket!

Old news, next!

It's nice that the C130s are coming though. The Polish AF doesn't seem to happy with the CASAs...

Umm F-16s might come to Poland from March 2009, and Obama actually agreeing on moving them and Hercules to Poland now, are two different things.

I don't know why would Russians be concerned about US planes in Poland.I bet they are as usefull as the Patriot systems they station in Poland.Like S.Komorowski said "they could as well send us potted plants."Thank you America!!!

Hasn't Obama learned that Russia rejects their presence? I really can't find any credible stories on this. I thing it's all just further hype from some off-the-wall publications.

It wasn't a done deal at all. Public opinion was rather hostile towards it as well, seeing as it offered no benefits (and plenty of problems).

Not a bad thing, seeing as it avoids Russia pointing Kaliningrad missiles straight at the infrastructure in Poland.

It's been in the pipeline to shift assets East. FA and armor to Bulgaria, fighters and transport to Poland and Romania.

On the other hand, Russia isn't running Poland. USAF F16s are already patrolling the Baltic with the other member nations. This isn't surprising to anyone

C130s aren't used in that role. That's what the powers that be invented C17s for.

When was the last time anyone here heard of the 3 Baltic States being in the line of fire? What would Putin want with Estonia, almonds? ;) Latvia, Balsams? :) Lithuania? Good beer? :) Or maybe he's in it for the bread as all 3 countries excel in that regard.

Obama had better go back to finding his birth certificate before he does anything else.

Guess back when they lost their independence for 45 years. Ask them why they joined NATO and why they want US planes in the regions.

Personally I think it is a waste of US resources and that Poland and the rest of CEE should take care of their own defense. No business being in Europe.

Boeing C-17 Globemasters is what the Polish Air Force needs not older C130s

You forget about the strategic importance that they have - Russia only has Kaliningrad as a year-round ice free port, for a start.

Poland can't afford C17s, nor does it need C17s. They use the CASAs on a daily basis, and the new C130s are more than capable.

Poland doesn't have any C17s of their own. They've got access to a shared couple of birds based in Papa, HU to provide heavy lift for NATO members.

Very true, it's also a nice chunk of land pushed out furthest west, it's like their modern day GDR.

Actually, the history of Kalininigrad is very interesting. It was offered to the Lithuanian SSR after WWII, but the Lithuanian SSR didn't want the responsibility of reconstructing the area. Therefore, the only solution was for it to become part of the Russian SFSR - which is why the oddity existed in the first place.

Do you really not know your history?

what is enough is enough. Poles, stop this madness immediately while there isn`t too late. Declare your military neutrality and follow Serbian example, as soon as possible. You may be only destroyed by NATO and EU (several times), you may lose territory, you may be annihilated, you may be devastated, you may be scattered, you may suffer economic blockade but, at least you would preserve your Slavic honor.

and, you would avoid to die like a urinated sandwich

I know all about it, it was also offered to Poland after the war with Germany keeping Szczecin and surrounding land west of the Oder river. What i meant was it's a large piece of land pushed of west which the Russians can and do use to encourage investment and also important strategic military location, something like the GDR was.

not to rise against Russia but, to arise for Poland. Military neutrality is exactly that. Only alliance that Serbs desire is alliance with Poles. That promising good party
