Sir, The Polish Ambassador (letter, July 31) claims that Polish political leaders have apologised to the Jewish community. Apologies do not ring true, however, while debts remain unpaid.
Alone among the countries of the EU, Poland has made no compensation arrangements for Jewish and non-Jewish owners of property seized from them during and after the Second World War. It is likely to be in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights, and hundreds of cases are awaiting judgment in Strasbourg. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/letters/article4445167.ece
