Poland's Economy Is No Joke

"Watching the world's leaders stumble their way through the economic crisis, it often feels as if political success and economic understanding are mutually exclusive. Even the Chinese, who over the past generation have engineered a dramatic turnaround from their Maoist economic nightmare, show a remarkable willingness to pursue a monetary policy (a currency peg to the U.S. dollar) that yields no benefit to their citizens. Amid this morass of economic quackery, it is refreshing to see a clear ray of sanity emanating from one country: Poland.

Last summer, I was invited to speak at the Economic Forum in Krynica, a resort town in Southern Poland. I was amazed at the level of economic activity and civic spirit that was on display throughout the country. I also was fairly surprised that my economic views, which are routinely ridiculed at home, have much wider support among the Polish economic officials who presented at the conference.

interesting, i was under the assumption that a gold standard reduces inflation, see U.S. inflation during and then after the gold standard

Why is it then, that a day does not go by and all you hear in the Polish news, is that schools, hospitals and other public services are strapped for cash ?

People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year.

Yes, MANY people are starving and suffering to make ends meet, just for the sake of a government creating a FALSE economy.

Great economy is that.

Watch this space.......... all good things come to an end.

People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year.

Where on earth have people not been paid for 6 months?

And in *every* country, public services scream about not having enough cash.

Watch the Polish news channels, its not fiction.

And in *every* country, public services scream about not having enough cash.

There are children not getting school dinners, hospitals on the brink of bankruptcy. It,s hardly the same as screaming about not having ENOUGH money. Theres NO money. So staff, ie. doctors and nurses are working without being paid.

Which Poland are you people looking at ?

doctors and nurses are working without being paid.

I have not heard of that.
Arguments over pay rises, sure but I have not heard of "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year."

Which Poland are you people looking at ?

I live in Malapolska.

Apart from the daily news channels, try watching " Magazyn ekspresu reporterow ", Tuesday 21.45.
" Sprawa dla reportera ", Thursday 21.00. And you will see and hear what is happening with your current affairs.

That could be any country in the world at present

Bollocks, these tv programmes focus on current problems, there's no way they would show anything about somebody being happy or some bussiness thriving. So if these are only shows you're watching you see only one side of the picture, and presented cases are usually some secluded incidents. Add that news are fear mongering nowadays too. It's the same in every country. And you're overexaggerating these problems. In every country you'll find somebody who hasn't been paid for 6 monts. Economy is really good in Poland right now, would be much better if not for krus and few other people who bloody riot everytime somebody tries to take away a bit of their communist time priviliges ( see teachers, policeman etc etc )..

Have you any links I can read now?
Because i have not come across what you are talking about when you say "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year."

And if it is so widely known, it should be no problem for you to source it.

Bollocks,

These were but examples, try reading news papers and speaking to higher intellectuals, maybe then your views may change. If not, it may at least improve your vocabulary.

try reading news papers and speaking to higher intellectuals,

Give us some links to back up your claims. I think you may be exaggerating what is happening.

Polish public healthcare has got problems all the time, bureaucracy - too many desk jockeys doing nothing. Too many blue collar workers - cleaning ladies et cetera in hospitals. National healthcare fund doesn't have enough money for certain services which is a big problem for those who have no idea how the system works, hence there's a lot of whining and screaming when some patient dies somewhere because hospital refused operating - and the opposition jumps onto the bandwagon to use the event to smack the ruling party. All this happens everywhere else in one way or another, in many different forms.

If not, it may at least improve your vocabulary.

This isn't a forum only for "those who speak brilliant english with no mistakes" so bugger off and go somewhere else with this school ground level talk.

I have eyes, ears and a brain like most people.
So I go amongst them, see and listen, then I use my brain.

Thats my source.
Maybe to convince you, I believe you would like me to produce a petition too.

I know the nurses striking for more pay etc...

All this happens everywhere else in one way or another, in many different forms.

Yes.

But I have yet to see "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year." as is George's claim.

I just want a link and I will happily read it, that's all.

Edit*

I have eyes, ears and a brain like most people.

Thats my source.
Maybe to convince you, I believe you would like me to produce a petition too.

I am starting to doubt your sincerity on the matter.
This brain you say you have, can it not find links to your claim?

Not sure about that but i can confirm theres around a three month waiting list for Chemotherapy thats if your still alive ofcourse. To even see an oncholigist you need to wait around a month or pay a bribe of atleast 1000 PLN, this also ensures chemotherapy a lot quicker.

The reasons for the above are limited funds within the NFZ. I flagged it months ago on a different thread and a different case.

Do you believe everything you read my friend ?

Does it have to be written ?

Does it have to be cast in stone ?

I assure you of my sincerity, but think.

Perhaps we need a combined effort or a Pole to help us out, look through the Polish tabloids it'll be there some where.

Who's got the keywords? NFZ ??????

Do you believe everything you read my friend ?

No, that is exactly why I am asking for you to back up your statement.

Does it have to be written ?

An official source would be better than some guy who calls himself 'honest' and then gets a bee in his bonnet when asked for backup, yeah!

You might have to change your user name after this.

Does it have to be cast in stone ?

Again your insincerity just shows us what kind of person you are.
If indeed "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year." as is your claim, I am sure it would be written about in the papers.

I assure you of my sincerity, but think.

THINK for yourself.

I now know you are avoiding posting any form of a link to any news paper article, is just suspicious at this stage.

Perhaps we need a combined effort or a Pole to help us out, look through the tabloids it'll be there some where.

I am sure it has happened but I have not heard of it happening any more than in the U.K. for an example.
Plus this guy is just taking the mickey at this stage, he said something, can't back it up and is being a immature and condescending, which there is no need for.

But I have yet to see "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year." as is George's claim.

Even if anything like that has happaneded it was a really secluded case. My dad has been working in different hospitals all his life and never heard of anything like this - especially now when there are unions. There might have been a few cases of maximum 2 months or decreased wages, always transient short period.

It is the bullish way that he makes a brash statement and then gets all snotty when asked for a link, that is the issue for me.

This is the internet, I am not going to take some guy's word for what he says over what I myself have heard unless he can back up his statements with reliable sources.

But this fella starts going off on one, as if I have offended him in some strange way.
And lets face it anyone who has to call himself "Honest" to prove a point, sounds dodgy to me.

Pour yourself a wee dram of whiskey fellow and

That's the best advice I have had all day.

Truce; I,m not here to argue or wind you up.
