Joint NATO-Russia exercise in combatting airspace terrorism

On 7-8 June 2011, combat aircraft of NATO countries and Russia will participate in joint exercise "Vigilant Skies 2011", dedicated to combat airspace terrorism.

Within the framework of NATO-Russia Council the Cooperative Airspace Initiative (CAI) has been established in order to develop and practise methods of preventing terrorist attacks carried out by kidnapped civilian aircraft, such as those used against the World Trade Center in September 2001. The initiative is designed to ensure safety of both - passengers as well as millions of civilians on the ground - by exchanging information about rogue activity in NATO and Russian airspace and coordinating interception procedures of rogue aircraft.

Russians involvement in Afghanistan lately. And, now this?
It seems that there is a flirt between Russia and Nato.
Putin, several years ago, had said Russia could join Nato.

Don't think that russia will join NATO anytime soon. But tight coordination between Russia and NATO would be very positive thing.

lols, thats hilarious. the russkies are regular visitors illegally over british airspave in their comical old Tupalovs(less comically carrying nuclear bombs),its roughly a twice monthly event, Scramble a couple of Typhoons to scare off the Bear :) Now they have the brass cheeck to talk about co ordinating responses to illegal incursions of airspace, gotta love that Slavic total lack of irony :)

Why do the Mods keep deleting my comments when they involve Rusisa & NATO.

Seems pretty on topic to talk about Russia & the NATO to me.

Yet, the Mods keep Pawians comment which is more off topic about taming the Russian bear?

The opening post is very specific. not one of your posts related to it.
