Why did PM Donald Tusk say he would not stand in this year's presidential election? In his own words: 'Ja nie chcę uczestniczyć w wyścigu, którego celem jest pałac i zaszczyt, ja chcę uczestniczyć w batalii, której celem jest cywilizacyjny postęp.'

This second part of his statement is a typical blah-blah which says nothing, and whose ultimate aim may be - who knows? - to confuse foreign people who will search in vain for an English equivalent of this bizzare expression: "cywilizacyjny postęp".
