yes, definitely an EX. But the thing is.. the stupid questions really came from a complete lack of curiosity, considering how many Poles live in England, your average English person has zero curiosity and lazily cling to 25 years out of date stereotypes.

This happens a lot unfortunately. people looove stereotypes. I blame the media.

I overheard a curious question tonight asked in a Polish restaurant.... The patron asked "does the red cabbage go well with the pork..." ;)

COnsidering how many Poles live in England what I really find staggering is their complete lack of interest in, and indeed contempt for, their host country and its people. I mean your average person.
Indeed I have had to pick my jaw off my knees many a time at the incredible off hand rudeness of Polish people towards those around them on public transport.
So why on earth should English people be interested in people who are blatantly only in their country for money or other advantages.

I remember three stupid questions related to Poland
1. "What's Poland?"
2. "So your Jewish?" (When an Asian friend found out I'm Polish. I'm not meaning to offend anyone)
3. "But isn't Poland a frozen iceland?" (When friend was talking about how "awesome" Germany is)

Perhaps if Poles were a little more outgoing and friendly they wouldn't have to field such stupid questions. - Just sayin'.

I am friendly ... and I go out ...

We are not the most famous country in the world ... so I guess people are just curious, and its not an attack ... its funny to hear sometimes too. I don't mind at all.

Well yeah I beleive it.. but a lot of Poles come across insular and aloof. Not so approachable. Probably a few more decades in the EU will help. I guess.

You imagine them to be curious, £ód¿. That's what many Poles would like, feedback on how they are doing. They ask many questions to foreigners. I was reading Ryszard Kapu¶cinki's book about Herodotus and he grew tired of the endless questions of the Congolese people. I guess he now knows how foreigners have it.

Is the economy booming over there now, because of all the money they took from here? Why did they escape the world recession?

there are actually still houses with no plumbing and outside toilets!

While looking for a house in Poland I came across an ad for a house that had "gas, water, electricity, telephone, internet, and the possibility to install an indoor toilet"

This one tops the list. I was asked it by an incredibly stupid girl back during uni. Just so happens she was asian, so more than likely doesn't know where europe even is. Im not bad mouthing, its just from experience...no asians whom ive ever known where able to point out europe on a map. Heres the question:

"so how did you survive the war?"

Before I had taken my trip to Poland last year, someone had asked me if I was planning on driving there. DUH! It's not like I live in Europe.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

oh god, the worst: "what's the difference between (shoe, nail, etc.) polish and Polish"

WTF?! -__-

well, dunno bout the british pronunciation, but we north americans pronounce the artsy 'polish' with an 'a' sound, like 'Palish'.
