A 9-year-old Polish girl died Thursday after an explosion of what was likely a bomb left over from World War II in a field in southern Poland.

The girl was the second victim of the explosion, which occurred Tuesday in the village of Konskowola. The explosion also killed the girl's 10-year-old brother on the spot.

The pair were playing in a field when they found the device. Police are waiting for test results to determine what caused the explosion.

Unexploded bombs from the World War II-era are frequently found in Poland. Casualties are rare.

In February 2010, engineers removed a wartime bomb from the construction site of the National Stadium in Warsaw, which is being built for the Euro 2012 football championships.

The Germans of course, they are nasty b****rds!
I hope one day the Polish will get retribution, and force the smelly ugly Germans to right the wrong!

Does it matter? I remember when they detonated two of them in the field when I was growing up, too dangerous to move or disarm and far enough from the residential buildings.

When they find these bombs, unused, they should send them back to Germany, via air mail, and drop them for fast delivery. This is what they did to Poland.

I think they'd better send these bombs via email to dumb bigots like you and release this way the Earth from waste of biomass.

During the construction of L'viv stadium for Euro2012 they also found bombs from WWII. Some of them were still active. This is a lesson for certain people from Indiana about what a war is and what consequences it carries. And, maybe, some day he will realize that sending bombs on innocent people just to prove one's dumb point is beyond stupid.

Of course money will never equal human life, but in our overtly capitalist world...you'd be surprised. What I'm saying is that it's wrong to judge modern Germans for something past generations did, especially when they're working so hard giving their taxes to bailing out other European countries.

The Germans did not care who these bombs killed when they droped them on Poland, why should we now care. The Germans killed many, without reason, in Poland, and we can not ever forget this. Somehow they must pay.

Don't even bother to ask.......a UXB was found near to where I used to live, we were evacuated from our houses for three days, while the army came in to make it safe and remove it. The best of it was, the damned thing was underneath the local football pitch, which was also used for local fairs, with hundreds of people running and trampling all over it.....I'm sure there are plenty of UXBs yet to be discovered in Germany as well.

How many people are aware that Shoenefeldt airport in Berlin is right on top of a whole load of nasty stuff... At the end of the war the military airfield that was there fell into the hand of the Russians , and they wanted to get the place up and running as soon as possible... Wrecked German aircraft , many full of fuel and bombs were just buldozed into bomb craters , and the whole lot quickly concreted over... Years later when the airfield , which was now a very busy airport became part of West Germany , the documents about the place became available and the Airport managers became aware of what they were sitting on....

It would cost millions to shut the airport down now and dig up all these nasties , so i guess they are just hoping nothing goes bang....!

There is a big difference between the desire to be fully compensated for damages, as opposed to saying that you wish other people would die. Especially those who had nothing to do with what happened in the past.

That kind of retaliation keeps hatred going forever like in the Arab world. You did this, I kill you. You killed my family, so I kill yours back. It never ends. Is that the world you wish for your children?

From my visits to Poland, I have talked with many who had suffered immensely, so it is natural to have raw feelings. It is understandable. But, it is better to direct those feelings to something that can be done that is positive. Anything else results in more killing, more strife, and Poland will never reach her full potential.

If they die they will never pay the compensation,so I don't wish them to.But think of all the damage (and I am only talking about material one) they caused. If we didn't have to rebuilt Warsaw,we could build the whole another city size of Warsaw. And this is only one city (though the biggest one). Now what about the whole country? It must have cost bilions and bilions just to rebuild it. Other countries not destroyed during the war were making progress and Poles were only REBUILDING.How can someone expect Poles to say "Ok, no big deal"?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIfZvAvV9oI
Look at these pictures and tell me what do you think was the cost of rebuilding Warsaw where 85% of all buildings were destroyed?
Even the rich US didn't rebuilt the the New Orleans yet because it cost bilions and bilions of USD to do that and the Poles had to rebuilt the whole country. And then you have foraigners telling you "What's the big deal?It was 70 years ago".

Pretty amazing accomplishment. I have a coffee table book that was made in the 1960's and was given to me by the grandmother of my host family in Poland. It shows the incredible devastation and how all the people were actively involved.

I marvel at what they did. And Poland is advancing now. More well established places are at the point where they need to rebuild things. Nothing stays the same. Hopefully the EU with Germany as a major participant will continue to benefit Poland. It is impossible to fix everything bad that ever happened. To dwell on it, hinders progress.

There is an old saying that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Friendships between countries benefits everyone.

Two children die and people four thousand miles away use it as an excuse to preach hate. Classy.
My sympathies.

Grubas,

I like the way you think, and I am 100% behind you. They must pay some way or another. Life is not fair, I know, neihter is killing without good reason, as they did, both the Germans and Russians.

They killed many of my family, and friends, and many others were forced to leave, to be safe, as was the case with my Grandparents.

War is a nasty business. It's horrible that these two kids paid the ultimate price for something that has lain dormant for so long. The fact that these people are preaching death to the Germans for it is disgusting.

RIP to the poor kids...and I hope that these few fools don't influence others into thinking that killing innocent people for what their ancestors did is the right way to do things.

Do we want Europe to become a new Palestine?

Does it matter?

It may have mattered in case there was any legible writing/warning left on the bomb. Had it been in Polish, there's a tiny chance the kids may have paid more attention (I assume 9-10 yr olds can read).
