Nice hotels in Warsaw

My sister and I are going to Poland in September to visit new found family. We will stay with them for a few days but want to do more family research in Garvolin/Koscielny Miastkow/Siedlce areas. Our travel agent said we should stay at the Novotel Centrum in downtown Warsaw as we did in 2006, but the area around the hotel is not so great. Could someone recommend nice hotels, perhaps on the east or south side of town that we could stay in? The prices our agent quoted seem more expensive than the ones I see listed on the Internet. Should we just reserve our own hotel through the internet? Thank you,

It depends - sometimes travel agents can get group discounts and they pass it on to the client. Sometimes they just add a bit of a mark-up.

What about Polonia Palace? Gorgeous hotel...

The best is to use booking.com ( you can select the most popular hotels in Warsaw )or another internet reservation site for hotels and then check the former clients comments and evaluation of the hotels on tripadvisor.com.

Hotel prices seemed to have gone through the roof....but then maybe thats because the zloty has gained so much against the pound and dollar.

The Polonia palace is in a very good location, but its on their main throuroughfare, traffic noise?

Though I believe that on the Tripadvisor site, sometimes when you search it brings up multiple search engines....so you could be checking prices out against 40 plus different search engines all at once, AND prices do differ, so look through them ALL!!!!!!

I can thoroughly recommend the Polonia Palace Hotel having stayed there for three nights lasy month.

Average room rate per night was around £ 70 (my memory is a little fuzzy tonight). Prices go down significantly at weekends (inc. Fri nights).

Traffic noise is not an issue. Rooms are obviously double glazed and out room was on the 5th floor so no noise problems at all.

I would be very wary about recommending just one website for hotel prices in Poland as they all differ wildly in price and one day the cheapest website becomes the most expensive.

I booked with cityhotelsdirect but you MUST shop around as some well known sites wanted £ 120 per night !!!

It is a stunning hotel inside and outside with a great location. You won't be disappointed.
