No US Visa Waiver for Poles - 8/9/07

Bush promised to drop the visa requirement for Polish people if the Poles helped out in Iraq war. They did help, and were the third biggest supplier of soldiers in the Coalition, right after the U.S. and the U.K.

Bush didn't back up his promise, and then the Poles said, "To heck with you, we won't continue to support a war on behalf of Israel. We're pulling out".

Now, I don't think there are any Poles fighting in Iraq.

Does the US really get a lot of illegal _Polish_ immigrants? If anything, I want to me _to_ Poland.

I do not know about illegal Polish immigrants but there are plenty, espcially from Latin America.

I believe there are still around 900 troops still in Iraq.

I don't think he promised their entry into the VWP, but he did promise to work with congress. Whether he did or not will be a mystery. From what I understood, congress was in favor.... I won't deny him being a liar though :)

You know, not everyone goes to US to work or use social benefits. Some people would like to move there for personal reasons and nothing would probably keep them there otherwise.

And visa waiver does not mean a right to work. This could be dealt with a simple work permit with less paperwork for potential employees. It's easier now, when it's simply uneconomic to go to US to work as a waiter if the ticket for 10h long flight costs you 1000$ and you earn 6$/hour. Ticket for a 2h flight to UK costs up to 100$ and you earn 6Pounds/hour.

IMO US is locking their borders for more educated people who would like to, for example intern in an american company or for specialists who could share and exchange knowledge.

This is also friggen bad for poor people who would like to be with each other for a few months without a need to make a serious commitment or simple trying to find a loophole in the system.

I'm new on the forum...And I'd like to point out something pretty important here... There is a quote in the first post of this thread that people have seemed to miss....and just start bashing Bush. I can't seem to find the controls to use the quote feature....I surely wish I could...anyways..that's not the important issue here.....The important issue is that George Bush SUPPORTED the POLES>>>> It was the DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS that doesn't support the poles

Please take a moment read it Again and wake up...It's not the Bush administration being un-supportive.... It's the people like Hilary and Obama...
The Bush
administration had reportedly supported
waiving visas for Poles due to the country’s
strong support in the US-led wars in Iraq
and Afghanistan, but failed to win congressional
backing for the move.
So? Many Poles don't like the US anyway. They say that since it joined the Union they get better pay in European countries.

That's not the point, the visa waiver program is for tourist visas not work visas. Now there's another good lesson in gratitude for the good people of Poland:) Let's congratulate all the Poles who overstayed their visas and ruined it for the rest, who just wanted a visa to visit Ciocia Zosia. What with the sinking dollar, the percentage of Poles who overstay their tourist visas will drop faster than a dress on prom night since it won't make financial sense to work in the USA, but it WILL make sense to breeze over to Amercia for a quick shopping trip. Then those jackals in Congress will give Poles visa waivers fo' sho'

There is more to life than money. In the US people work because they have to pay for bills, taxes, etc. Poles when they come here, specially those illegal ones, don't pay taxes, they live 10 in a room and don't have many bills because they want to save their money so when they go back to Poland they can show off how much they made and buy that new car and other toys.

your senses must be off.. i hate shrubco and all his cohorts not america. i am extrememly dissappointed that americans became sheep and attacked a once sovereign nation for no valid reason. how many innocent dead in iraq? at least 20k by us military numbers released yesterday... some studies suggest a number at least 5x that. that makes me pissed off.. smells of hitler.

Hillary Clinton & Barrack Obama will change everything...they love Polish people.

Hello, are you listening????
Congress voted it down not Bush, And who runs the Congress????
Hillary and Barrak??
if you are going to make things political blame the people who voted it down, the Democrates run the congress, so if you want this you need to vote those bumbs out, get off Bush, all he can do is ask for it,and he cant do it himself, thats why we have a congress and not a dictatorship. I am sorry but I am tired of people always blaming Bush for all their problems, call barrak and hillary and ask them why they didnt vote for it??? Novel Idea eh?

I never said it applies to all Poles. People are greedy everywhere in the world. But many Poles coming from a poorer upringing when come to US, change. They lose themselves in the dollar signs and want more and more, like the gold rush.
And I'm stressing the fact that not everyone is the same, but the general observation.

42+ million is a little more drastic than 20k. I don't agree with what the current admin is doing either, but it's a horrible comparison. IMO

we're not done killing just yet.. how many in afghanistan? i don't think 20k is even remotely near the real number. we're killing iraqis at higher rate the saddam ever did.

i can't believe you guys/gals are making excuses for the war machine.. the fact that irq was innocent seems to conviniently escape your conscience.
