From what I can see. People just stay at home and watch TV etc. No-one is doing anything this Nov 1 as it's snowing heavily [in Wroclaw].

Its maybe a bigger deal for ex pats, an excuse to get together and have a drink.
I would have thought now that Poland is asserting herself in Europe that a bigger deal would have been made of these kind of days.

In the UK its rememberance day, where we remember those who dies in the wars of the past.

The day the guns fell silent in World War 1.

- It's our Independence holiday, and contrary to what Wroclaw says, it's been celebrated in free Poland (under the Russian occupation it wasn't). Masses are being said in churches, cemeteries visited, candles burnt.

That's why it's on this date but it's not just for wars past....The British legion are there for service men and their families who are being affected by the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...that's what the money from the poppys are going to.....Soldiers that are getting blown to bits, then come home to an NHS waiting list, because this Government has closed down all the military hospitals

wow cool Pictures Greg,, I notice on that car ( last pic) that it says USA but those are
numbers behind it right? cant read that to well.. so they have huge parades , and the
US is included :) that makes me feel good. really, with all the bad that happens we
seem to point fingers on all the bad and not focus on the good which we need to do
more of :)

This is a picture of my dad, who served in WWII as Merchant Marine. bringing

much needed supplies to the men fighting on the front lines but also fighting at
sea to assure these important supplies reached their destinations.

in my research I came across by accident some of his ships destinations to which
quite a few times landed in England.

Isnt my dad a cutie.. :)) I miss him

ps. the picture is blurry because of the way its paper was made. and me having
to fix some of the picture.

That's one of WW2 era military vehicles, which were on the parade.

I never seen one that looked like that, not even in the USA,, but its pretty unique
looking do you know the history of that type of military vehicle?

PS. on the back it looks like its for rough terrain because the back looks like
the back half of a army tank and the top covers the whole back almost like a tank
my brother would love to see that..

Before anyone states the obvious, that top armoured car is a German SDKFZ 251, representing one of those captured during the uprising I shoild imagine, and,if you look really closely behind them apears to be my mates representing soldiers of the AK.:)
the one below is a Sherman M4,probably representing 1st armoured division, free poles ,west front.
the one below,no idea, but isnt it cute :)
(kidding, its a pre war polish armoured car,in the camo of the 36 manouvers,i think...)

Wz. (Mark) 34, to be strict. Pity there isn't any original equipment (I'm talking about bigger one, such like planes or tanks) left in Poland from the September Campaign of '39(except for P. 11c in Muzeum Lotnictwa in Kraków).
